Report: Broncos request to interview George Paton, Vikings Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Player Personnel

Broncos add a third name to their General Manager search.

NFL: Denver Broncos at New York Jets Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos have requested to interview Minnesota Vikings Assistant General Manager and VP of Player Personnel, George Paton.

He joins Champ Kelly and Dave Ziegler as the people they’re looking at to replace John Elway as the teams General Manager. The Chicago Bears have already accepted the Broncos request to interview Kelly, but acceptance has not come for the other two as of yet.

George Paton was a finalist for the 49ers General Managing job that John Lynch ended getting but since has served as the Vikings Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Player Personnel. Now, he’s getting a look to become the next Denver Broncos General Manager.

Paton’s talent evaluator skills and stellar draft record are often mentioned when talking about why he’s being considered for a General Managing position. He has been in high demand a few times, but is known for turning down opportunities and appears to be looking for the right situation. He most recently turned down an opportunity to become the Cleveland Browns next General Manager last season. Will he now turn down the Broncos? We shall see.

One thing that could sway Paton to seriously consider the Broncos job is that his nephew Rob Paton is currently a Broncos scout.
