According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos have requested to interview Minnesota Vikings Assistant General Manager and VP of Player Personnel, George Paton.
The #Broncos are off and running on their search for a new GM, sending in a request to interview George Paton, #Vikings Assistant GM and VP of Player Personnel, source said. He is the third known name for Denver’s search, joining Champ Kelly (#Bears) and Dave Ziegler (#Patriots).— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 6, 2021
He joins Champ Kelly and Dave Ziegler as the people they’re looking at to replace John Elway as the teams General Manager. The Chicago Bears have already accepted the Broncos request to interview Kelly, but acceptance has not come for the other two as of yet.
George Paton was a finalist for the 49ers General Managing job that John Lynch ended getting but since has served as the Vikings Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Player Personnel. Now, he’s getting a look to become the next Denver Broncos General Manager.
Paton’s talent evaluator skills and stellar draft record are often mentioned when talking about why he’s being considered for a General Managing position. He has been in high demand a few times, but is known for turning down opportunities and appears to be looking for the right situation. He most recently turned down an opportunity to become the Cleveland Browns next General Manager last season. Will he now turn down the Broncos? We shall see.
onfirming Broncos have sent permission slips to Patriots for Dave Ziegler, who was with Broncos from 2010-12 and Vikings assistant GM George Paton, whose nephew Rob Paton is a Broncos scout. Bears Champ Kelly received permission for GM interview earlier today. #9sports— Mike Klis (@MikeKlis) January 6, 2021
One thing that could sway Paton to seriously consider the Broncos job is that his nephew Rob Paton is currently a Broncos scout.
Do you want the Broncos to hire Rob Paton to be the teams new General Manager?
