Broncos vs. Washington practice participation report: Wednesday

The Denver Broncos made a lot of roster moves since last Thursday. Here’s to hoping the changes produce some positive results in Week 8 against the Washington Football Team.

The Denver Broncos have been busy this week trying to shore up depth issues all over the place. On Tuesday, they waived running back Damarea Crockett (again) and inside linebacker Curtis Robinson and released three other players from the practice squad, including wide receiver John Brown. Offensive guard Netane Muti went onto the COVID-19 reserve list. However, they did designate tight end Albert Okwuegbunam to return from injured reserve.

They also conducted a couple of trades. The first came Saturday when the Broncos acquired outside linebacker Stephen Weatherly in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, then on Monday they traded with the Los Angeles Rams for starting inside linebacker Kenny Young. Both moves look vital as Von Miller could miss some time and Bradly Chubb is still out, so adding a guy like Weatherly there made sense. And as far as inside linebacker is concerned, we all remember how the last game went with blown gap assignments against the Cleveland Browns rushing attack.

Then on Wednesday, the team announced they added Crocket back to the practice squad (again) along with Curtis Robinson. They then signed offensive guard Shaq Calhoun and inside linebacker Barrington Wade to the practice squad as well.

That’s a lot of moving pieces and I haven’t even gotten to the injury statuses of the active roster yet. Both Von Miller and defensive lineman Mike Purcell were held out of practice, but everyone else was at least limited. Head coach Vic Fangio did note that Miller is “questionable” to play on Sunday and we’ll know better by week’s end what his status will ultimately be.

For the Washington Football Team, the big name held out of practice on Wednesday was wide receiver Terry McLaurin. McLaurin is huge for them as Denver has shown it struggles to contain fast, agile receivers. Running back Antonio Gibson was also limited with a shin issue.

Here is your full Wednesday practice participation report for both teams.
