There’s been much written about the Broncos’ decision to draft Patrick Surtain II instead of a quarterback. However, there’s been too little written about Patrick Surtain II (affectionately dubbed PS2)’s high level of play this season. He’s been lights out for Denver, and one of their few bright spots on defense this season.

According to PFF, Surtain has allowed 10 catches for 79 yards and a single touchdown on 24 targets in the past four games for Denver. He’s recorded three PBU’s in that same period. He also owns their lowest reception percentage among all rookies with over 20 targets at 54.3%.
PS2 overtook Kyle Fuller at the LCB spot in week 6. During that time, Denver’s DVOA rating on deep passes going to his alignment improved from 27th to 16th. The Broncos also boast the third-lowest DVOA ranking to the right side and are third in DVOA ranking on short passes to the right.
Not bad, rook. Surtain looks like he can be a building block and cornerstone of the Broncos’ franchise for years to come.
