Broncos Country has a rooting interest in the Super Bowl thanks to Shaquil Barrett

The former Broncos edge rusher makes this worst-case scenario Super Bowl matchup a little easier to stomach.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

As a fan of the Denver Broncos, this is the worst possible matchup in the Super Bowl.

You have a division rival against a longtime rival.

What helps with the latter is the success the Broncos had against Tom Brady, especially in the playoffs where he’s 1-3. In AFC championship games, Brady is 0-2.

What really aids in the “rooting” interest for this Super Bowl is Shaquil Barrett. As I told Adam Malnati on the MHR Radio Podcast, I’m rooting for the former Colorado State standout and Broncos edge rusher today. How that could get even sweeter is if Barrett were to have a Von Miller-type impact on this game. And it’s entirely possible.

To highlight how small the world is, the guy who attempted to block Miller in Super Bowl 50 is now the guy who will attempt to do the same with Barrett. That is, of course, Mike Remmers.

From a sports betting perspective, Barrett is a long shot for Super Bowl MVP. If you think he has the chance to take over the game like Miller, it might be worth a few bucks. What’s interesting is Barrett has shown in the past he can dominate games. He did so in the New Mexico Bowl in his final season with the Rams.

In that refrain, earlier this week Darren Rovell pointed out that Barrett is a serious liability to PointsBet for Super Bowl MVP.

It’s not the matchup most in Broncos Country would have liked, but rooting for Barrett makes rooting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (mainly Brady) a little easier to stomach.
