What is the best case scenario for the Broncos in free agency? What’s the worst?

On the MHR Radio Podcast, Cecil Lammey of 104.3 The Fan answers both questions as free agency is set to start.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

NFL free agency is upon us.

And with it, our first indication of how new Denver Broncos general manager George Paton plans to “fix” the organization.

As a primer for free agency, Adam Malnati and I had the pleasure of talking with Cecil Lammey. The Broncos insider from 104.3 The Fan and co-host of the Nick and Cecil Show with former Denver safety Nick Ferguson, had some great information for Broncos Country.

But some of the best is when Adam asked Cecil what the best case scenario is for the Broncos in free agency.

As Cecil said:

“Ooh, the best thing in free agency. They’re going to be aggressive, but not the way that fans want them to be. I understand people are like, ‘Let’s go get this guy,’ or whatever. You see all of the guys who aren’t getting tagged and are hitting the open market. Not that they would be in on a Kenny Golladay. They’re not going to go for that. This is going to be a weird year because of the lower salary cap, because of COVID, all of those sorts of things. Last year, we had most of everything. We didn’t have everything.

“So expect a muted appearance in free agency. Expect second-wave free agents. And none of this is exciting, right? I’m not hyping up the fanbase at all by saying these type of things. I don’t think they’re going to be a big player in free agency. Your big catch, if you will, is Deshaun Watson, and obviously that’s not in free agency. So free agents are tendering your guys. Hopefully keeping your guys. Watch out for Phillip Lindsay, there’s a lot of attention on him. Hopefully he doesn’t get signed away. But keep your guys. Stay the course. Plan for the Draft. And have your eye on Deshaun Watson. You’re either going to get him or you’re not going to get him. It’s as simple as that.”

As for the worst:

“Does this include losing Von Miller? I don’t know about you guys, but I still think Von’s got game left. Von’s never going to be a 20-sack guy. I know he’s said that. I used to think that. He’s just never done that. You’re going to look at 12 sacks. Maybe 15, something like that. He was looking like an incredible, just a behemoth monster, beast, whatever you want to say, in the limited training camp we had last year. Von Miller looked like he was going to wreck the world. I just want to see that. Selfishly, I want to see that. So worse case scenario, to me, would be losing Von and having him go to the Chargers. ‘You know Brandon Staley.’ Worse case scenario, go to the Chiefs. You’re saying worst case scenario ...”
