Aaron Rodgers saga comes into clearer focus this week for Broncos

This is the week when rumors could become reality... or not.

On Thursday, April 29th, the first day of the 2021 draft, shockwaves rippled through Broncos Country when news broke that Aaron Rodgers was unhappy with the Green Bay Packers and wanted out. Despite the hysterical hypotheses of local media in the hours that followed, it became apparent that Denver was far and away the odds-on favorite to land Rodgers. It was only after Denver selected Patrick Surtain II that it set in that such a trade wasn’t going to happen until after June 2nd; the day such a trade wouldn’t have such a devastating impact on the Packers’ salary cap situation.

Wednesday of this week is June 2nd.

While it’s unlikely that a move will happen when the clock strikes midnight, there may be a softening of Green Bay’s posture that may allow for a trade soon after. The time for loving overtures and peace offerings to change Rodgers’ mind are now over. He was absent from their recent OTAs, opting instead to spend time in Hawaii with his fiancée Shailene Woodley. Does it again need mentioning that Woodley owns property in Boulder?

Eventually, Green Bay will have to decide what they want to do with Rodgers. Do they let him retire a Packer and get nothing for him or do they make the move that makes the most sense and get a king’s ransom for him from Denver and move on?

This is the week we may find out.
