In their last pick of the 2021 Draft, Broncos took LSU cornerback Kary Vincent - a guy very familiar with new Broncos’ teammate Jerry Jeudy.
Back in the day the two would spar in SEC competition when LSU was facing off against the Crimson Tide of Alabama.
And Jeudy was one of the toughest Vincent ever faced.
“I’ve been through this process awhile, and everyone has asked me who was the best receiver I guarded during my college career,” he said, “I told them all Jerry Jeudy. He is one of those guys.”
The DB said he’s looking forward to practicing against Jeudy and making each other better.
Vincent opted out last season, citing the pandemic, adding he wasn’t even sure if they’d even have a season.
To make matters worse, he actually contracted COVID-19 and it wasn’t particularly kind to him.
“I got it myself and I contracted symptoms twice,” he said. “I got tested twice, and they didn’t know what was going on.”
But the season prior, Vincent was part of the LSU team that defeated Clemson to win the national championship. He played a big role in that run, with four interceptions, 47 tackles (two for loss), and eight pass breakups over the season.
Asked what he remembers about the 2019 LSU Tigers’ defense, he mentioned their chemistry both on and off the field.
“That was the first time I was a part of a team like that. We all loved each other,” he recalled, “When we weren’t playing football, we were always around each other.”
Vincent was also on LSU’s track and field team - clocking a 10.07 in the 100m - but there’s no question which sport he prefers.
“My school gave me the opportunity to do it, so I did it,” he said, “I did it because I love to compete, and it was something I could compete at.”
Head coach Vic Fangio asserted that Vincent will have the opportunity to learn nickel and dime positions within the team.
“He’s had experience doing that at LSU,” Fangio noted, “Obviously, he played some outside corner also. I don’t see him going back to safety at this point.”
The coach added that if someone can play the inside nickel position, it’s a significant help to the team.
Vincent made it clear that he doesn’t take this opportunity lightly and it’s “an honor to be drafted.”
“Going this late is just a really humbling experience and I’m just so hungry,” he said, observing that a lot of guys don’t make it that far and a lot of people didn’t think he would either. “I’m glad you guys have given me this opportunity. I’m ready to get there and work.”
