Inside Linebacker may be the weakest position group on the roster

Is the Inside Linebacker group in a good place heading into training camp?

Can we hear from those of you in Broncos Country who are excited about the state of the Inside Linebacker position for our team?

This is probably the one grouping on the team that has historically seen the least attention for the past 5-6 years and has to be one of the weakest depth positions on the roster.

Do I think Alexander Johnson is a good starting ILB? Yes.

Do I think Josey Jewel is a good starting ILB? Absolutely not.

Do I think the depth guys behind them bring something in the form of big potential to the roster? Not after Baron Browning’s injury.

I write about the ILB position year after year and pine for an injection of depth and a real stud to bring a serious lift to our defense. But for whatever reason, the Broncos still ignore the position.

The good thing here is that Vic Fangio’s defense doesn’t require your ILBs to be elite or anything close to it. Now that we have serious depth in the secondary and healthy pass rushers, it is very possible that kicking the ILB can down the road one more season won’t come back to bite the team.

That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some kind of move to bolster the unit before the season starts if Browning isn’t quickly rounding into shape...
