Odds favor Vic Fangio as first NFL coach to be fired this season

The Denver Broncos need to have a good season for head coach Vic Fangio to keep his job.

According to BetOnline.ag, the most likely coach to be fired first in the NFL is Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. With a new General Manager in town, it is always a tough spot for a head coach of a losing team to be in and since George Paton decided to let it ride at the quarterback position we could be seeing Fangio used as a mulligan for Paton’s first season with the team.

1st NFL Coach to be Fired during the 2021-2022 Regular Season
Vic Fangio - 5/1
Mike McCarthy - 6/1
Kliff Kingsbury - 15/2
Matt Nagy - 15/2
Zac Taylor - 17/2
Mike Zimmer - 9/1
Jon Gruden - 12/1

One thing to consider here is something DNVR’s Ryan Koenigsberg noted in their recent show that Vic Fangio and offensive coordinator Pat Shumur are leaning with Teddy Bridgewater as the safer pick since it is their jobs on the line while Paton and John Elway want to see things roll with Drew Lock again this season.

Obviously given Lock’s inconsistency, the latter is the riskier play and if it doesn’t work out we could see Fangio being that first NFL coach being fired in 2021.

What do you think of Fangio’s situation with the team? Is it as bad as oddsmakers are projecting here?
