Update 9/12: Giants running back Saquon Barkley was medically cleared to play today. That is a huge development as the Giants’ offense is a different beast with him in the game. Denver will need to make sure they keep him contained to come away with victory in Week 1.
Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season is already underway. The Denver Broncos will be playing late on Sunday on the road against the New York Giants. It is interesting they are playing at the late time slot as usually when Denver plays on the east coast they get the early game slot.
Game Preview
The biggest x-factor for Denver in this game will be how well new starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater manages the offense and how well he leads that unit to points on drives. If he is efficient enough, then this team could be a dark horse in the AFC with the defense they have.
What I would like to see from Bridgewater is effective game management. Focus on running the ball and picking up first downs with the short passing game. If they find success doing those two things, then Bridgewater should be able to take a few shots down field for the big play.
On the other side of the ball, Von Miller and that Broncos interior defense should put all the pressure they can on Daniel Jones. If they can do that, then we should see Denver’s secondary come up with some turnover opportunities.
Good offense with sustained drives and a few turnovers on defense is what will help this team glide into its first win, but things are never that easy - especially on the road.
Here’s how to watch.

Broncos Betting Odds
The Broncos have held a steady 2.5-point advantage in the spread over the Giants all week and the lines haven’t moved much based on the injury reports coming out of both teams. Although many oddsmakers have seen their lines move just slightly to 3-points in some areas for Denver.
Matchup History
The Broncos and Giants have quit a respectable inter-conference rivalry going. In 12 all-time meetings, they have split them right down the middle. However, the Broncos have won two of the last three meetings. The Giants did beat the Broncos in Super Bowl XXI back in the 1986 season, but we don’t like to talk about that around here.
