Jerry Jeudy MIA in Broncos win

The Denver Broncos offense has taken a step without Jerry Jeudy.

After a terrific win in Los Angeles against the Chargers, one thing became clear: This Denver Broncos team has taken a giant step over last year.

Not so fast Jerry Jeudy.

14-weeks into the 2023 season Jeudy has just 43-receptions for 1 touchdown and 507-yards. On Sunday, he went just 2-6 for 16-yards and no touchdowns.

For whatever reason, Jeudy can not seem to find his groove with this new-look Russell Wilson offense. On Sunday, Jerry had every opportunity to catch two balls that quite literally slipped through his hands. Sure, Russell wilson might have been able to place the balls a little better, but in the words of the late and great Broncos coach, Dan Reeves, “If you can touch it, you can catch it.” Both those dropped balls should have been catches.

The greatest disappointment on Sunday came when, in the waning seconds of the 1st half, Wilson found Jeudy for what appeared to be a touchdown. Although Jeudy got one foot down in-bounds quickly, it was what MHR’s Tim Lynch called the “longest second second-step” he’s ever seen a receiver take, that invalidated what should have been Jeudy’s second touchdown of the season.

Jerry Jeudy could have had a career day if he’s just done the little things. In contrast, Courtland Sutton was making one-handed grabs all over the field, spotlighting how poorly it’s just not working for Jeudy in Denver.

I get that you have to give your former 15th overall draft pick opportunities to showcase his talents. Heck, we have seen spits and spurts of what could be greatness from Jeudy, but at some point it’s time to look into the roster for those that can step up and make the plays that Jerry left out there on the field. To continue to look Jeudy’s way when he’s habitually incapable of doing those things only does a disservice to the team.

Time is running out for Jeudy and the Broncos are slugging it out in December in the greatest playoff push in nearly a decade. If we can’t rely on Jeudy to make plays now, when it matters most, it can’t be certain he’ll be able to make plays of any kind going forward. That’s concerning for Broncos Country.
