The Detroit Lions began the second quarter near midfield and ultimately crossed it before being faced with a third and six. Jared Goff was nearly sacked, but found Sam LaPorta for the first down for their first third down conversion of the game. Goff would fire a pass over the middle for a 21-yard gain into the red zone on the very next play.

Goff his LaPorta again who completely juked Josey Jewell at the first down marker and would run by him for the game’s first score. The Lions would go up 7-0 over the Denver Broncos early in the second quarter.

Russell Wilson was hit as he threw on first down, then Javonte Williams was blown up for a three yard loss on second down as the Lions defense smelled blood in the water on the next series. On third and 13, Wilson was immediately swarmed by three Lions defenders for a sack to bring out the punt unit.

With all of the momentum, it didn’t take long for the Lions to break the game wide open from there. After driving all the way inside the 10, the Lions dialed up a quick slant to Gibbs for another Lions touchdown.

Desperate to get something going offensively, the Broncos decided to go for it on fourth down at their own 30 yard line and Russell Wilson was able to dive over the first down marker to keep their driving alive with six minutes left in the half. That effort was useless, however, as the Broncos would immediately end up in a fourth and ten to punt it away.

The Lions looked to put the game away before halftime on their next drive. They were right back in scoring position at the two minute warning. Facing and third and one coming out of the two minute warning, David Montgomery easily powered his way across the first down marker for another first down.

To close out the half, the Lions would add more points on a wide open pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown for Detroit’s third touchdown of the quarter.
