Broncos face most important game of the year vs. Texans on Sunday

Win this game and the Denver Broncos chances of making the playoffs is very high. Lose the game and their chances of making a run collapse.

There is little doubt that despite the five-game win streak, the Denver Broncos are still in a must-win situation heading into Week 13 on the road against the Houston Texans. According to PFF, if the Broncos win their playoff chances skyrocket. If they lose, its almost game over. That’s how big a hole a 1-5 start is in the NFL.

While that certainly looks dire, even a loss on Sunday doesn’t necessarily count Denver out completely. As Nick Kendell noted on X this week, the Broncos just wrapped up an incredibly tough run of defenses during their win streak and face the easiest schedule of defenses of any NFL team to close out the season.

Given how strong those defenses were, it makes Russell Wilson’s play even more impressive during that streak. It wasn’t always pretty, but he was amazingly efficient. Sean Payton’s play-calling featured a lot of running the football and short, safe throws from Wilson. The result was Wilson having the highest adjusted completion rate in the NFL so far this season.

Facing much poorer defenses could help them continue winning games as the defense luck of generating turnovers subsides as it will likely do. Either way, I think Denver has to close out their season with four wins minimum to have a shot at making the playoffs and that is doable whether or not they win this weekend, but a win would make it much more certain.
