Dear Santa, is a three-game win streak to finish the season too much to ask?

The Denver Broncos really need to win out not just for a shot at the playoffs, but to make this season the feel-good comeback story it seemed like a few weeks ago

Hey there Santa!

Having become an adult without much need for toys, it’s been a while since I’ve written you a personal letter, but I come to you not just on behalf of myself, but the entirety of Broncos Country.

You see, since experiencing an overwhelming level of success from the years 2012-2015 as well as several playoff teams in the years leading up to that stretch, the last seven years have been...tough. Call it eating a slice of humble pie. Call it flying too close to the sun. Call it whatever you’d like, but life as a Denver Broncos fan has been turned upside down since annual nice-list member Peyton Manning retired.

We’ve seen losing season after losing season. It seems like we’ve experimented with more quarterbacks than there are birds in the 12 days of Christmas. As for coaches, we have had our share of those as well. And for the first third of this season, it seemed as if our misery would continue...

But Santa, something incredible happened! The team won a game against someone a tad mediocre, but then followed it up with a win over the perennial Super Bowl favorite Kansas City Chiefs! Then the Buffalo Bills! The team won five straight and all of a sudden climbed out of the cellar and into playoff contention!

The fan base was energized, the team possessed a total winning attitude and outlook, and it seemed as if the good times would continue to roll...except they haven’t. Unfortunately, the team has taken a bit of a tumble back to reality, going 1-2 in their past three games, topped off by an absolute bludgeoning in Detroit. It was the worst performance by the team since prior to the win streak.

We’re close, Santa...we’re very close. Yet, we set ourselves back just enough to the point where it is pretty much imperative for the Broncos to win these last three games. The opponents are beatable. The opportunity is there, but there is just a bit of uneasiness that the loss to the Lions will somewhat infect the attitude of the team.

Please, for this Christmas, could you inject them instead with the spirit that propelled them to five straight victories and away from being a laughing stock? There was a time when the thing this fan base wanted more than anything for this season was the draft position to grab a franchise QB. Now, there is nothing more we would like than to experience the postseason once more, and even if we win out and don’t make it, a 10-7 season would at least give us the sense of pride that the team was playoff caliber.

I know you’re very busy this time of year, and will be especially be busy Sunday night when the Broncos host the Patriots, but if you just happen to be flying over Denver and want to take a detour over Empower Field, and you have some Christmas spirit you’d like to drop over the Broncos’ sideline, we’d be cool with that.

If it helps, just know that the Broncos will be up again one of the all-time longest ranking members of the naughty list in Bill Belichick. Hopefully that adds a little incentive.

Merry Christmas!
