Despite the Denver Broncos' 16-9 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, they have been eliminated from the postseason. Victories by the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Seattle Seahawks and the Kansas City Chiefs over the Cincinnati Bengals have officially eliminated the Broncos from the playoffs.

The Broncos' first winning record since 2016 remains on the table in Week 18, but the playoffs will have to wait.
Entering the game, their best chance of making the playoffs would be taking the division from the Chiefs if they lost their final two games. Obviously, that did not happen and the teams ahead of the Broncos in the wildcard all won as well. Their chances were slim at best because of their disappointing losses in recent weeks.
Postseason hopes at the beginning of the season were ambitious at best but the Broncos were alive until the second to last week of the season which is an improvement from recent years. The team is at .500 at 8-8 and has a chance to finish with a winning record for the first time in years. So while the elimination is disappointing, it is not all doom and gloom for the Broncos.
With that said, the Broncos did fumble a good chance at making the postseason. They were in the mix because they won five straight games during the middle of the season which included victories over the Chiefs and Bills. However, losses to the Texans, Lions, and Patriots in recent weeks really hurt their chances.
Now, this Broncos team needs to build upon this season and be even better next season. We saw the Lions finish strong last season and carry that into a postseason berth this season. However, uncertainty at quarterback and with limited cap and draft picks could make that difficult for them.
We have all offseason to discuss that and we still have one more game left on the schedule. Let’s finish strong and finish the season with a winning record.
Would you call the 2023 season a success even though they did not make the playoffs?
