Broncos-Chiefs previews

Chiefs had a lot going for them in last Broncos game, still lost - ESPN
The Kansas City Chiefs would love to run, say, 29 more plays than the Denver Broncos in Sunday night’s game between the teams at Arrowhead Stadium. They would love to have the ball for more than 36 minutes, leaving less than 24 minutes for Peyton Manning and the high-scoring Denver offense. They would be thrilled to convert on 69 percent of their third-down plays while holding Manning and the Broncos to a 38-percent conversion rate. They would be happy if they committed four fewer penalties than the Broncos do.

With Julius Thomas uncertain to return, the Broncos could use alignments with extra tackle Paul Cornick and a tight end to keep the running game purring. C.J. Anderson set a Broncos' record for an undrafted free agent with 167 rushing yards last week. The Chiefs allow 129.4 yards on the ground per game, ranking 26th overall.

NFL Week 13 game picks: Packers top Patriots; Broncos prevail - NFL.com
This is a very difficult game to pick for three major reasons: A) The Chiefs played Denver tough on the road earlier this year. It was a 24-17 AFC West classic. B) You know Kansas City's players, coaches and everyone else right down to the cleaning staff will want to win this game for Eric Berry. C) Berry is also quite integral to what the Chiefs do defensively.

The bizarre DEN-KC history
Of Manning's seven wins over KC with the Colts, four have been decided by just one score. Since No. 18 joined the Broncos, Denver's five-game win streak hasn't exactly been filled with blowouts.

Injury update: Brandon Marshall clears protocol; Aqib Talib, Julius Thomas questionable
"It (the concussion) wasn't that bad, honestly," Marshall said. "Right after the game, I was good. I could drive, and I was good to go. It's just staying with the protocol. So I knew I would come back; it was just that i had to go through this whole thing. "I didn't have any memory loss; I remember everything. I didn't have any headaches. So everything was good."

Coordinators' Corner: Grinding in the ground game
But since his return from the injury, he's averaged about 93 rushing yards per game at over five yards per carry, along with about 20 yards per game through the air. To be fair, Knile Davis did well in Charles' absence, but having a "big factor," in Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio's words, back in the backfield gives them greater versatility and skill in Andy Reid's offense. "Jamaal's an outstanding talent," Del Rio said. "He's a homerun threat, he's always falling forward. He has great vision, great balance. We have a lot of respect for him. We know he's very good at what he does. They give him the ball a lot of different ways, screen game, check mounds, and design routes and they hand it to him, toss it to him, bunch of different things. We got to be on our game."

Mason's Mailbag: C.J. Anderson continues to earn team's trust
"We’re getting a better feel for what kind of runner he is and that vision has been impressive and him getting the amount of carries he did last week, he found some things that we hadn’t really seen out of him so far," said Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase. "So I would say that he’s really showing us a side of him that we didn’t really know about."

Broncos, Gase stick with game plan
"That was a good front so not really sure how it’s ever really going to work out but leading up to that game, in practice, we did a good job. We were on it all week in practice," Gase said. "Then when we got in the game, I think it helped they got in a good rhythm early. I think after the first or second drive, I remember going down there and [the offensive linemen] were just like, ‘Hey, we’re feeling pretty good about what you’re calling, stay with it.’ That just made me feel a lot better about let’s keep dialing it up and ride those guys to the end of the game."

Potential landing spots hard to find for Ray Rice in 2014 | ProFootballTalk
Broncos: Continuing along the theme of teams dealing with injuries, the Broncos are waiting to get Ronnie Hillman and Montee Ball back in the lineup. Their offense isn’t an easy one to pick up, though, and C.J. Anderson appears to have it down pat, which doesn’t leave much reason to go down the Rice road.
