When the Denver Broncos win, the MHR Staff gives out game balls. With the Broncos incredible overtime win over the Cincinnati Bengals, there is plenty of game ball love to go around.

The Denver Broncos overtime home win against the Cincinnati Bengals put both teams at 11-4 on the year, with the Broncos holding the tiebreaker and now control the number two seed in the AFC playoffs.

Down 14-3 at halftime, the Broncos came alive in the second half to nearly completely shut down the Bengals offensively, while also discovering that the no huddle and run game would find success. The Broncos would outscore the Bengals 17-3 after halftime and never really lost control of momentum.

In this victory, the Broncos find both redemption and confidence heading into the final week of the season. Here are our game balls for Week 16!

Brock Osweiler

Brock Osweiler is going to have questions about his performance in two halves again this week, but there shouldn't be. The Denver Broncos barely had a chance to get things going offensively until late in the second quarter. From then on, it was Osweiler making good decisions with the football and never letting momentum swing completely back the Cincinnati Bengals way. Whether is be desperation throws like this.

Or driving the Broncos down the length of the field down two scores to open up the second half. Capping the drive with a perfectly placed pass to guide Emmanuel Sanders inbounds and into the end zone.

That wasn't enough for the young signal caller. No, he needed to put together an actual game-winning drive with time ticking down. So what does he do? He makes this throw.

The drive should have won the game, but Brandon McManus would give us the shank of all shanks to send the game into overtime.

A lot of young quarterbacks would fold under that kind of pressure (see AJ McCarron in his overtime possession). Not Brock. Brock went for the jugglar and almost got it, if not for a big hit by Reggie Nelson near the goal line on a perfectly placed pass from Osweiler to Owen Daniels.

McManus wouldn't shank his next kick, while Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware made a quick ending to the Bengals hopes and dreams on the first two overtime plays from scrimmage. Game over.

Osweiler is 4-2 as a starter and the Broncos have weathered his struggles, while witnessing how he stands tall against the NFL's best talent. I can't wait to see what he brings to the table in the playoffs.

Peyton Manning has taught his young padawan well. A Jedi Knight in the making it seems. - Tim Lynch

The Team Win

The Denver Broncos get the game ball. They won this game as a team. How it responded in the second half and overcame adversity is a testament to the coaches and players. The Broncos didn't lose faith or confidence. They didn't let a horrid first half stop them. Nor a shank from a kicker. A fumble on a big drive. It wasn't one player or a coach. The Broncos won this game as a team that complemented all aspects. If Denver doesn't do that, it doesn't win this game. - Ian St. Clair

C.J. Anderson

C.J. Anderson was playing hurt, but that wasn't going to stop his ability to take over a game and make a huge impact against Cincinnati. He may have only carried the ball 9 times, but he made the most of the opportunities he was given. His production totaled 73 yards and he capped off a tremendous fourth quarter with a 39 yard touchdown scamper that ignited confidence in his teammates and coaches which helped propel the team to victory. Gutsy performances such as that have made him a fan favorite worthy of praise and admiration. If the Broncos want to have success in the playoffs, they will need Anderson healthy and ready to run when the time comes. - Christopher Hart

Emmanuel Sanders

For the second week in a row, Sanders had a huge game for the Broncos, but like No. 10 has been doing all year, he did it with just a few big catches at important times. In a first half that had very few Broncos highlights, Sanders’ 35-yard first down catch near the end of the second quarter sparked the offense and set up a Broncos’ field goal. It also put Sanders over the 1,000-yard season mark for a second consecutive year.

Sanders’ 8-yard touchdown to cap the Broncos’ first drive of the third quarter put the team back in the game and set a tone that the Broncos were not folding – not this game. Sanders said after the game, he was excited to "make a play" on the huge first-half catch and provide a spark for the team. That second reason was the most important thing Sanders did with his four catches for 67 yards.

"Obviously, the whole game they were reading the quarterback and on that one play he actually read my route. I just threw my hand up and kept running. It felt good to go out and make a play," Sanders said. "I was able to spark the crowd and spark the team." - Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann

Demaryius Thomas

Demaryius turned 28 on Christmas day, which I’m guessing is the first one he got to spend with his since he was 11. He seemed somewhat revitalized, after a sub-par performance agains the Steelers. Demaryius looked like he was fighting, he didn’t drop any passes, and he actually seemed to be having some fun out there. I am confident that once Brock and DT develop a rhythm and chemistry, they will been a great QB/WR duo. Let’s just hope it happens before the playoffs. - Kelly Fleming

The Coaches

My game ball goes to the coaches. I called them out last week for lackluster preparation and no adjustments. They were a big part of flipping the script this week. They adjusted to the ferocious Bengal attack, switched the defense to zone concepts to slow down their QB, and had surprisingly good in game coaching calls (time outs to "help" get the refs to review plays). The whole team was dialed in. The whole team contributed to clawing, biting, kicking, and screaming for this well deserved win. That is a sign of good leadership and the coaches deserve a hat tip for it. - Sadaraine

Owen Daniels x2

Brock's toss to Owen Daniels in the 4th, over the linebackers and before the safeties got me, both the call from Kubiak shows me that he trusts Osweiler and the successful connection. I am a believer.

Now that I've said that, I'd give me game ball to Owen Daniels. For weeks Kubiak harped on 'execution', I mentioned often that it seemed like Kubiak refused to take blame for the losses. Well, we saw what happened when those guys started executing, Daniels caught his balls, for the second week Osweiler made major gains off of a blown coverage and Daniels further executed when sticking back in protection to assist Michael Schofield. It has become clear that when Daniels is on, the whole offense clicks. - Ian Henson

Everyone was all excited when Vernon Davis came to town, assuming he still had some speck of playmaking in him, and would make Denver's offense more dynamic. The only dynamic element Davis has added has been an additional set of hands that's really good at dropping footballs. His non-clutch, no-tough performances have made me sick.

Enter Owen Daniels. Denver's tight end led the team in receiving yards (70) and was 2nd on the team in receptions (5), with nearly all of his catches moving the chains for the Broncos. Plus, there's this.

Classy move by a tough-as-nails Bronco. - Kyle Montgomery

Danny Trevathan

Denver's linebacker was a run-stuffing monster against the Bengals, finishing with 12 tackles that included at least 10 stops according to PFF, who had him as Denver's highest graded player on offense or defense. Early on, it seemed no one on Denver's defense really wanted to tackle Bengals players - no one outside of Trevathan, that is. His and the defensive line's run defense held Bengals runners to 3.3 yards per carry (even including AJ McCarron's 16-yard run) and held Cincinnati running backs to 77 yards and 2.8 yards per carry. We all know that any young quarterback's best friend is a strong running game; Trevathan made sure McCarron didn't have that when the game was getting out of hand. - Kyle Montgomery

Week 16 for the Denver Broncos had the Cincinnati Bengals coming to Denver for a regular season playoff showdown of epic proportions. Both teams are looking to do some damage in the post season with backup QBs and really needed this game to help boost their post season situations.

This was the kind of football game that NFL football fans relish. Nail-biting 4th quarters. Overtime after a hooked FG attempt. Just enough offense to score a FG in OT and then a crazy play to end the game.

I love the fight I'm seeing in our team. I think a lot of our fans spend way too much time nit-picking our success without perspective. Too many fans (especially non-Bronco fans) are chirping in with the negatives:

"This team doesn't scare anyone." (Ask the opposing QBs about our pass rush sometime)

"Osweiler just doesn't look like he has it." (Dude throws to every level and drove the team down the field twice in the clutch...I'm not sure what else you want from a guy who's only started a handful of games)

"You can't beat a real playoff team playing like that." (Uhm....last I checked the Cincinnati Bengals were a playoff team with a pretty friggin' fantastic defense. For the record we put down New England as well.)

Let's get No Bull people: This is a new coaching regime in its 1st year. We're running a completely new offense. We're running a completely new defense. We've had an array of significant injuries strike both sides of the ball dating back to training camp. Our veteran QB blew a gasket on his last ride and we're gunning with a young buck who doesn't have the experience you'd like to see in your QB. Please stop expecting perfection from this team. You are only setting yourself up for disappointment. This is a very good football team. You don't get 11 wins in a season by sucking eggs. The team is exceeding any realistic expectations you'd have had if you went into the season knowing we'd lose Peyton 1/2 way through the year. Be excited for your Denver Broncos and cheer hard. This team is playing their hearts out on the field and never giving up. That's about all we can really ask of any player.

Offense

I had to verify with a couple of trusted sources post-game that what I actually saw was an offensive adjustment at halftime. We came out in the 2nd half in no huddle and put the Bengals defense on its heels. Way to go Kubiak (and if he's speaking truthfully) and Dennison!

Quarterback

This guy looks like a young quarterback learning the game, but I LOVE it. Do you want to know why? Because he's showing progress from game to game and he looks like a guy who has serious potential. He's throwing passes to the sideline on a rope. He's progressing through reads 3-4 deep (he wasn't doing this in his first start). He's moving in the pocket much MUCH better than he did in his first few games this season. The dude's QBR was 100. He didn't throw the ball to the other team. He marched us down the field in the clutch not once, but twice! This team can win in the playoffs with Brock. The rest of the team just needs to be all in like they were at the end of this game.

I'm not saying he isn't without flaws. He still holds the ball a hair too long in tough situations (bootleg passes that aren't open). His long touch pass needs a LOT of work if this game is any indication of that. But at least at the end of the day he isn't chucking it to the other team at least twice per game and putting our defense in bad spots.

Line

I sure wish we had more depth at tackle. Michael Schofield was once again abused. His feet are so excruciatingly slow and he looks so completely scared against the speed rushers he's been seeing lately. Unfortunately his backup is Tyler Polumbus who I have no desire whatsoever to see take over at this point in the year. But if you were to ask me who the weakest starter on this Bronco team was, my answer with no hesitation would be Schofield. He plainly doesn't have goods to cut it in the NFL unless he's seriously got an injury issue that we don't know about.

I really think our line did a fairly mediocre job in run blocking which is something I'm willing to resign myself to being happy with at this point in the year. They have as much time in this system as they can get to put it together. This appears to be what you can expect and it isn't all that bad truthfully. We did average 5.4 ypc as a team.

I do think their pass blocking improved a great deal as the game wore on. We actually gave Schofield some help at times with a chip block. We also schemed him to block inside and let a TE get the end on a play that I thought worked well. The inside blocking and blitz pickup from the backs was very solid for the most part which is a relief really. There wasn't much success from any of the A gap blitzes the Bengals drew up that I can recall.

Running backs

The only big question I have about the way the offense is being handled is why in the world do we see so much of Ronnie Hillman instead of C.J. Anderson? Both players touched the ball 9 times in this game. Hillman averaged a respectable 3.9 ypc. Anderson had 8.1. If you want to get fussy about the long run for a TD (which why would you...it actually happened after all), he still averaged ~4.86 ypc on 7 carries. Last I checked, that was more than 3.9. GET CJ THE FRIGGIN' BALL!

Receivers

Let's talk about Demaryius Thomas first. I want to point out that this dude had to fight for a lot in this game because he was being held and interfered with on almost every pass that went to him. Seriously. I lost count of how many times I saw Adam Jones holding and pulling on DT's arm before and while the ball got there. Want to know why DT had to make a one-handed catch in the clutch to convert that 3rd down? Because Jones was holding his arm back. Kudos to DT for playing hard and getting after the ball with only one arm most of the game.

Owen Daniels has caught a lot of flak from me this season. But I can see why we brought him in and the value he has to this team. In every game this year he's made catches. It hasn't been because of speed or quickness. It has been because of veteran craftiness and route running. He went after it in this game and my hat is off to him for sure for going across the middle late and getting completely slobber-knocked for it. That was tough football play that I won't soon forget.

Emmanuel Sanders is just too fast for defenses to handle. The scary thing is that we currently don't have a QB that can truly take advantage of that. Even on the long ball that Sanders caught, it was a poor throw that Sanders had to stop for. If Brock can get down his timing for the long routes to Sanders and DT downfield, you are going to see sparks fly from this offense. Don't look for that until next year though. I think it is something he'll have to hone in the off-season with them.

I loved seeing so much contributions from our WR depth. Jordan Norwood got 6 targets in this game and completed 4 of those. It was a seriously solid contribution to the team and meant as much as Ronnie Hillman's catches out of the backfield (funny thing...both players had identical stats other than targets).

Defense

Our defense sure did look lost in the 1st half of the game. Credit Cincinnati for a really great game plan early with a lot of wrinkles that had Denver back on their heels and grasping at air against their passing game. McCarron threw so many perfect passes and really impressed me early.

But just like the offense, our defense went into halftime and came out revamped and adjusted to shut down the Bengal offense. I keep seeing a lot of people reference the player's and coach's quotes about playing man and let me tell you that is half Bull. Yes, the three key corners kept playing man coverage. But behind them we went from cover-1 to cover-2 in the 2nd half. We dropped back our linebackers and extra defensive backs more into zones and shrunk the target areas for them to throw to. Crossing routes weren't so safe. The outside deep routes had help on both sides. We still dialed up some cover-1 man blitz concepts (to great effect really) at times, but it was sprinkled in, not the mainstay. It was just what the doctor ordered and refreshing to see going into the playoffs.

Front 7

Danny Trevathan was a man on a mission in this game. He didn't make the flashiest plays by far. He was the clean-up crew which is exactly what you want from your ILBs in our scheme. Right behind him in tackles for this game was Brandon Marshall. I'm sure there are better LBs out there in the NFL, but I wouldn't trade either of these two guys for anyone else in this scheme. They really are an under-recognized key piece of the success of our defense.

Vance Walker played this game like a veteran player who's at the end of a season looking for a shot at something great. He really showed up big to me from the interior of our line and it wasn't just the one sack he got. He had a QB hit and a TFL as well. It almost seemed to me like he was challenging Derek Wolfe for the title of "Big Nasty" on the inside. I'd call them both winners in this game. They both tore it up.

Von Miller had another mostly quiet game. He harassed the QB when he could and as the game wore on they HAD to hold the ball longer and it finally gave Miller the chance to get home. Honestly I think he was robbed on the 2nd to last play in OT. Had the refs and the review team had integrity, it would have been reviewed and overturned. Because Kubiak had to point it out to them there was no way they were going to end the game on a review like that. It would make the NFL look bad.

One guy who I'm not going to be popular for calling out this week is DeMarcus Ware. Yeah...great play getting the game winning fumble recovery. Good job on a TFL. What else did you do big guy? Your pass rush looked worn down and slow just like last year about this time. It wasn't like the coaches used him too much either. He was in on 58% of the plays this game. Maybe he needs only 40%? Maybe the coaches could get more out of him on the field if they had some younger guys add a little to their plate. I think both Shane Ray and Shaquil Barrett can handle it (39% and 31% respectively).

The other guy who was strangely quite this game was Malik Jackson. Malik has been a complete monster this whole season. Cincy did a really superb job on him and I honestly think that was mostly the reason he disappeared. The Bengals have one of the best offensive lines in the game and it showed.

Secondary

I think our big play CBs got a little bit of humble pie in this game, but they both handled it perfectly. Chris Harris Jr. and Aqib Talib both let big passes happen on them...more than one even. But both of them shook it off like it was no big deal and moved on to the next play. They both made more plays on the back half of the game than they gave up early. Again, you have to credit A.J. McCarron with some really well thrown passes. I don't care if you are Deon Sanders, you can't stop a perfect pass.

It was so good to see Darian Stewart and T.J. Ward (albeit only for a little while) back on the field. This defense really needs them to work well. Too many plays in this game were given up by Josh Bush who was playing timid and not able to read / react fast enough to break up plays. He's a young guy with some potential, but this team needs very badly for him to not be starting or playing significant snaps moving forward.

Special Teams

Another week, another surprisingly short punt from Britton Colquitt. Habits are hard to break from what I know.

Brandon McManus, how the hell do you not even kick the ball straight on that kick at the end of regulation!? The sad thing here is that that is the kind of kick that can haunt a guy. I'm glad McManus got another chance in OT to redeem himself and he did a helluva job kicking it right down the middle of the uprights. Still...how many of you are going to be queasy next time we need McManus to kick a clutch FG?

Final Thoughts

We are in the playoffs, Broncos Country! I know the journey isn't over and that's not what the ultimate goal is, but please take just a moment to enjoy that. In the NFL it is really friggin' tough to have a winning season let alone make it to the playoffs. Once again, our Denver Broncos have gotten to the dance so that we have a team to cheer for this post season. I couldn't be more excited to see what happens and I honestly think the future is really bright for us with what I'm seeing from our coaches and our players this year.

After two weeks of dominating the first half and then playing poorly in the second half, we flipped that this week. The Bengals dominated all but the last few minutes of the first half, but we owned the second half.

It's not supposed to be easy for inexperienced quarterbacks to move down the field and score against the elite Denver Broncos defense, but our defense did not look elite in the first half. We didn't stop the run on first down like we have for most of the season (more on that later) and we were not getting pressure on A.J. McCarron, because his line was playing extremely well.

The Cincinnati Bengals were allowed to convert on their first four 3rd downs leading to two long TD drives (80 and 90 yards). We didn't get our first 3rd down stop until in late in the second quarter on the missed field goal drive.

In a disturbing trend, both of our last two opponents have been able to convert against us even on 3rd and long. It was not a surprise for Ben Roethlisberger to do this against us. He has always been able to convert on 3rd and long. It was a surprise for AJ McCarron to be able to convert on three of seven against us.

The conversion on 3rd and 16 was painful, but it was a good play by McCarron who took a shot to complete the throw. Our safety play was lacking. For the season we have now allowed 73 of 193 3rd and longs to be converted (37.8%) - that includes conversions by penalty.

Leaving out penalty conversions, we have allowed 25.0% conversion - 9th best in the league. Minnesota is currently the best in the league at 19.1% conversion allowed on 3rd and long. The best offense at converting on 3rd and long is Arizona, who are converting an amazing 40.0% of 3rd and longs.

The Bengals, overall, converted on 10 of 17 3rd downs against us despite playing with the backup QB. As I mentioned earlier they converted on their first four 3rd down tries all of which were medium length (4-6 yards needed). They also converted six of their first eight 3rd down tries. We made some adjustments and were able to stop them on five of their last nine 3rd down tries, but they still were able to do much more against us than I was expecting given that McCarron was making only his second NFL start.

Stopping the Run on First Down

During the first half the Bengals were able to consistently win the line of scrimmage and gain 4 or more yards per carry on first down runs. This was the perfect strategy to protect their young QB from our fierce pass rush since they were able to stay out of long yardage situations on 3rd down for most of the first half.

Their first down runs in the first half went for 4, 4, 5 , 2, 4, 16, 6, 5, 4 and -3 yards. All of those except for the the two yards and the negative three yards runs are "wins" for the offense. That's ten carries for 47 yards (4.7 ypc). Compare that to second half were they ran the ball five time for 15 yards (3.0 ypc) with one stop for no gain and one tackle for a loss.

Moving Forward

One game left in the regular. One more chance to show how dominant our defense can be. One chance to guarantee that we get one of the coveted and much needed byes. Our depth has been tested at almost every position at this point in the season.

Getting that bye will go a long way to helping a deep playoff run, but the San Diego Chargers are not going to just roll over and play dead for us. They are going to do everything in their power to make our path as difficult as they can. They took the Raiders to overtime in week 16 before falling 23-20. They out-gained the Raiders and won the time of possession battle in the loss. Their offense has been improving in recent weeks, so I expect them to score a little more than the three they scored against us last time. I still expect us to beat them soundly.

This is huge, especially when it comes to playoff tiebreakers. If the Broncos are able to take care of business against the San Diego Chargers in Week 17, they'll win the AFC West. The Broncos' 14-point comeback against the Chiefs will have sealed the division for Denver, giving themselves a win and KC a loss in what turned out to be a neck-and-neck contest.

Meanwhile, Denver's overtime comeback wins in primetime against the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals give them head-to-head tiebreakers against each AFC foe. If they all finish the season 12-4, which is possible with a Denver win and New England loss, the Broncos would be propelled to the first seed, all thanks to those big tiebreakers. No matter what, if the Broncos finish 12-4, they'll have earned a first-round bye.

Kicking and screaming has set the Broncos up to do something they didn't a year ago: succeed in the playoffs.

Things did not look good for the Broncos until the final minutes of the second quarter when Brock Osweiler fired a 35-yard pass to Emmanuel Sanders that set up the Broncos' field goal to end the half. But it was enough to spark the team for an inspired second half.

Call it a game of redemption.

For Gary Kubiak to make adjustments.

For Brock Osweiler to show he can lead in the second half.

For Demaryius Thomas to prove he can catch in the clutch (and with one hand if he needs to).

For Brandon McManus to kick when it counted (when it really counted).

For the offensive line to block somebody just long enough.

For the vaunted Broncos defense to live up to its No. 1 hype.

/takes deep breath...

But mostly, for the entire Broncos TEAM to win a big game when the season was on the line.

Von Miller said the obvious, but it was spot on.

"We just needed this win emotionally," said No. 58, who had just three tackles and one QB hit. "Every win is big. We've been through tough times this year, and we just needed it emotionally. We came into the game a little too relaxed, but we kicked it up and got the (win)."

The Broncos literally "kicked" it up as a McManus field goal in overtime put the Broncos up 20-17 before the defense did what it started the season doing - winning the game at the end with aggressive, no-holding-back play.

The Bengals had a chance to go for the win after the Broncos only scored three in OT, but Miller and DeMarcus Ware made sure that didn't happen as the two linebackers created fumble situations in back-to-back plays in which the first should have ended the game following a play review, but refs just couldn't bring themselves to see an obvious fumble.

So the Broncos just did it again, and Ware recovered on the second one to seal the win and end the game.

"Oh yeah, I knew that I had the ball. When I saw that on the ground, I was so close to it and I was like, 'There is no way that somebody is going to take this ball from me,'" Ware said. "It felt good to finish the game that way."

Linebacker Danny Trevathan, who led the defense with eight tackles, noted that his fellow defenders enjoy the pressure of needing to win the game.

"Our offense went out and did our thing, had one little error, but our defense is built to make up for that," said Trevathan. "We like pressure. We enjoy that. We rise to the occasion. I think our defense is one of the best defenses to create turnovers and make plays when needed."

The defense certainly rose to the occasion in the second half after a rather pathetic first-half showing. But Ware said the halftime adjustments were nothing more than a bunch of guys who decided to play better.

"The guys really wanted to get out there and win. This was a big game for us," Ware said. "You can see how they really came out, played and made some big plays. It just felt great."

To say the first half started slow would be a huge understatement. The Bengals got the ball first and kept it for nearly the entire first quarter as the Broncos defense got picked apart by second-year quarterback A.J. McCarron in just his second NFL start.

The former Crimson Tide slinger was 12 for 17 with 119 yards in the first half in which 57 of those were directed toward Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green.

"He played a great game," Chris Harris, Jr. said of McCarron, adding that the young QB has a bright future in the NFL. "Some of those balls, I swear, I was right there. Any other quarterback, I feel like they throw it lower and I can break it up. But he kept throwing the balls high and away, and you've got to attribute that to him on those great balls he was throwing."

Despite getting beat repeatedly in the first half, Harris Jr. kept battling - and eventually won the war.

"You've just got to be confident. I knew last week I had a bad game, and I just wanted to come back, bounce back [against] another Pro Bowl receiver and make plays on [Green,]" Harris Jr. said. "He's a very good receiver - one of the best around the league. For a guy that tall, he has great speed, great hands and it's a tough battle."

The Broncos had been talking all week like this was a playoff game, and they proved in the second half they believed it. But football is often a game of momentum, and the team with it at the end, is usually the one with the win.

Luckily, that was the case Monday night.

On that one play he actually read my route. I just threw my hand up and kept running. I was able to spark the crowd and spark the team. -Emmanuel Sanders on his 35-yard first-down catch to mark his second 1,000-yard season.

While the defense was struggling in the first half, the offense wasn't helping anything as the Broncos had the ball for a mere eight minutes on only three drives - the first two of which combined for a net gain of 24 yards.

But thanks to a huge lift from Emmanuel Sanders on a 35-yard first down catch to set up a 23-yard chip shot, the Broncos took some mojo into the locker room at half.

"Obviously, the whole game they were reading the quarterback and on that one play he actually read my route. I just threw my hand up and kept running. It felt good to go out and make a play," Sanders said, who went over the 1,000-yard mark for the second consecutive season. "I was able to spark the crowd and spark the team."

It was just three points, and the Broncos were still down 14-3, but it was all they needed.

Getting the ball to start the second half, the offense made the most of it, going no-huddle for 81 yards on 11 plays and gaining five first downs before Sanders scored on an eight-yard strike from Brock Osweiler.

Suddenly, the crowd and the team seemed poised for a big comeback.

"Our conversation at halftime was to try to pick up the tempo a little bit, show them a look that we have not shown on tape," Osweiler said about the first drive of the third quarter. "At the same time, coach really preached all week long, 'focus for 60 minutes. One play at a time. Whether that play is good, bad or ugly, move on to the next play and keep your focus there.' That's truly what this football team did tonight."

It wasn't an electric comeback by any stretch, but it was efficient. The following three drives ended in punts, but the defense stepped up in the second half too and prevented the Bengals from even attempting to pull away.

McCarron, who had looked like a seasoned pro in the first half, was unable to do much of anything the second, and the first four drives ended in punts, three of which were three-and-outs.

"We loaded everybody in the box, challenged them to throw the ball and that's how we were able to shut down the run. That's what we do...we just find a way to win," Harris Jr. said. "That was a playoff game today. In the playoffs, you've just got to figure out the way to win."

Still down 14-10, the Broncos took the lead with almost 12 minutes to go thanks to a 39-yard juke-and-go to the end zone from C.J. Anderson.

"I've said it before, but it takes four quarters to beat us, and we learned last week it takes four quarters to beat another team," Anderson said after the game. "We have to focus for all 60 minutes and all three phases of the game."

It definitely took all three phases on Monday night in the final minutes as the Broncos' offense needed the defense to bail it out after a fumble - which it did - then special teams needed to get a field goal to win - which it didn't.

But if this team has learned anything this season, it is just how quickly a game can switch to your favor.

Although a shanked 45-yard field goal sent the game into overtime, McManus took advantage of a second chance in the first drive of OT and put the Broncos up 20-17 via a 37-yarder through the uprights.

In my 24 years on this earth, I don't think I've ever kicked a ball like that in my life. I wanted a chance to redeem myself. -Brandon McManus, kicker.

"In my 24 years on this earth, I don't think I've ever kicked a ball like that in my life," McManus said of his missed field goal attempt. "I wanted a chance to redeem myself, obviously. I wasn't nervous out there for the second one. I was just mad at myself for such a poor kick on the one before that."

With a second win in overtime, Osweiler gets the credit for rallying the offense when it counted, and that growth is not lost on Gary Kubiak.

"If you're going to be a good player in this league, you have to block out noise. That's just part of it. He's done a great job of that. I think the team has done a great job of that and rallied behind him," Kubiak said, praising Osweiler's poise and protection of the football. "Probably no bigger play than the third-and-10 in overtime that he makes; it was one hell of a play that he makes off schedule. Very proud of him, but his teammates have really helped him out and done a good job."

No doubt showing poise like a true pro, Osweiler pointed out that to be a playoff-bound team the Broncos are going to have to be able to roll with the good and the bad.

There are going to be good plays and bad plays. But that's football. When something happens, we come together as an offense, focus on the next play and talk about how we're going to execute the next time. -Brock Osweiler

"In a given football game, there are going to be good plays, there are going to be bad plays. There are going to be touchdowns. Hopefully there's not too many turnovers, but that's football," said Osweiler, who finished the day 27 of 39 for 277 yards and 100.3 quarterback rating. "When something like that happens, we come together as an offense ... focus on the next play and how we're going to execute the next time that we're out on the field."

That's something Thomas certainly showed last night. After struggling in recent games with multiple drops, DT came down with a huge one-handed grab on third down to keep a potential game-winning drive alive.

"It was third down, and we needed it," said Thomas, who ended the night with seven catches for 59 yards. It was kind of in field goal but not field goal range, and I just had to do whatever I had to do to make plays."

After the game, Kubiak noted he's not bothered by the team playing good in just one half, but it is improvement to have the good one be at the end of the game.

"It actually excites me to watch what took place in the first half last week and what took place in the second half this week because that's what this league is about at the end - finding it all," Kubiak said. "They know. They know what they're capable of. We're going to keep working on the negatives ...but we feel very confident in the direction we're headed."

In his post-game victory speech, Kubiak was a little more succinct: "How 'bout that f-ing second half?"

Redeemed.

With a win Sunday, the Broncos would be guaranteed a playoff bye. With a loss, a Wild Card berth seems certain.

The Denver Broncos assured themselves a playoff berth with their 20-17 overtime win against the Cincinnati Bengals... but not much else. The AFC West is still not won; the AFC's top seed is still up for grabs.

If the Broncos beat the San Diego Chargers Sunday in their regular season finale, they'll be guaranteed both their fifth straight division title as well as a playoff bye. If the Miami Dolphins also beat the New England Patriots, the Broncos would claim the AFC's top seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

If the Broncos lose and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Oakland Raiders, they'd fall to a Wild Card, where they have a roughly 50/50 chance of being the sixth seed (and going to Kansas City to open the playoffs).

Most likely playoff scenario

Based on NFL odds, it's most likely that both the Patriots and the Broncos will win next week. That would make the Broncos the No. 2 seed, and the playoff standings you see above would remain as-is.

Who would the Broncos play?

As the likely No. 2 seed, the highest remaining seeded team from the WIld Card round would be Denver's foe in the Divisional Round following their bye. In this scenario, if the No. 3 Cincinnati Bengals won, it would be a guaranteed rematch against the Bengals, possibly led by Andy Dalton. The Broncos wouldn't face their AFC West rival No. 5 seed Chiefs unless both Kansas City and the No. 6 seed New York Jets won in the playoffs' first round.

Stay tuned; in this week-to-week league, anything can happen. But the Broncos have set themselves up for a deep playoff run if they beat the 4-11 Chargers at home in Week 17
