The Broncos have released center Gino Gradkowski after signing center James Ferentz.

According to 9NEWS Denver's Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos have released center Gino Gradkowski.

This move was expected after the Broncos claimed former Houston Texans center James Ferentz off waivers.

Gradkowski joined the Broncos in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens back in April. The Broncos sent a 2016 4th round pick to the Ravens for Gradkowski and their 2016 5th round pick.

Gradkowski was the Broncos starting center throughout the spring and summer. He was the Broncos starting center for the beginning of Training Camp, and but eventually lost the job to Matt Paradis one week in. Since then Gradkowski has been working with the second team.

This trade doesn't look for the Broncos now that they are releasing him. The Broncos should get a 4th round compensation pick this winter to give them a 4th round pick, but it still sucks losing that 4th.

The Broncos have at least one more roster move to make before the day is done. Their roster currently stands at 54 players.

Stay tuned to Mile High Report for more news on the Broncos roster adjustment and news on their Practice Squad.

The Broncos added two more players to their 53 man roster today.

According to multiple reports, the Denver Broncos have claimed former Houston Texans center James Ferentz today.

Ferentz is a 6'2", 285lb center who is entering his 1st season in the NFL. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans last season.

Here's a scouting report on Ferentz via Draft Insider's.

Bio: Two-year starter awarded all-Conference honors as a senior.

Positive: Productive, hard-working college lineman with limited upside for the next level. Smart, tough, and technically sound. Attacks assignments and goes after defenders yet plays within himself. Keeps his feet and hands active throughout the action. Recognizes stunts and blitzes, works well with linemates, and keeps his head on a swivel. Patient and stays square. A solid position blocker who finds ways to seal defenders from the action. Moves relatively well on his feet and is effective blocking in motion.

Negative: Undersized and struggles handling larger opponents. Does not possess great growth potential.

Analysis: Ferentz is a coach E(TM)s son who understands the game and gets the most from his ability. He lacks the size to be anything other than a backup, but his football intelligence and approach to the game could make him an asset on a roster.

Ferentz looks built to play in a zone-blocking system, and now will probably backup starting center Matt Paradis. This signing could spell the end for either backup center Gino Gradkowski and backup guard Shelley Smith.

Broncos claim tight end Mitchell Henry:

According to multiple reports, the Denver Broncos also claimed tight end Mitchell Henry from the Green Bay Packers.

Henry is a 6'4", 252lb rookie tight end from Western Kentucky. He signed as a undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted during the 2015 NFL Draft.

Here's a scouting report on Henry from NFL.com.

STRENGTHS: Tough pass-catcher in space. Doesn't search out safeties or linebackers when working the middle of the field and is willing to take the big hit and finish the catch. Natural hands. Adjusts routes when working seam to open up larger throwing windows for quarterback. Keeps working to open up when plays stall. Good foot quickness out of breaks. Will make the contested catch. Adequate play speed.

WEAKNESSES: Lacks play strength of an inline, NFL tight end. Struggles to sustain his blocks and will get outworked for the edge by stronger opponents. At times, will wait for throws to make it to his body rather than extending and snatching. Routes are raw and need to be sharpened.

DRAFT PROJECTION: Priority free agent

BOTTOM LINE: Not enough sand in his pants to be a reliable blocker at the point of attack, so he might have to transition into more of an H-back role or move tight end. Has the hands and toughness to make contested catches as well as the foot quickness to get open. Worthy priority free agent target.

Look for Henry to provide depth at fullback/H-back, tight end, and play on special teams for the Broncos. I believe he will be a gameday inactive for the Broncos early on.

It will be interesting to see who they move from the roster to make room for Henry. The Broncos do have a surplus of cornerback depth right now.

Good Morning Broncos Country!

Things could change before this article is published Saturday morning, but as of Friday night the Denver Broncos have yet to make any cuts to their roster. They currently stand at 75 players.

There have been some not so surprising rumors about running back Montee Ball being traded. I would expect him to be moved or cut sometime today.

Outside of that, who stays and who goes is unknown. So with that said, let me take one final shot at prediciting the Broncos 53 man roster.

Offense(25)

Ryan Harris

Michael Schofield

Thoughts:

I have the Broncos trading or cutting Montee Ball. He just doesn't seem like the same back he was his rookie season.

I have the Broncos only keep three running backs, for now. The talent at wide receiver is too deep and I think they will go with Fowler over Bibbs.

I also see the Broncos adding one more tight end. They don't see too impressed with what they have after Daniels and Green. Look for the Broncos to add at least one more tight end this weekend.

With Schofield struggling at left tackle I expect the Broncos to add a capable backup to the rookie Sambrailo.

Defense(27)

Antonio Smith, and Kenny Anunike

Strong side linebacker(2)

Cornerback(5)

Chris Harris Jr., Aqib Talib

Bradley Roby, Kayvon Webster, and Lorenzo Doss

Free Safety(2)

Darian Stewart

Omar Bolden

Strong Safety(2)

T.J. Ward

David Bruton

Thoughts:

I have the Broncos trading Steven Johnson. Elway has said he was looking to move a linebacker, and I could see Elway moving him. This would allow the Broncos to keep two youngsters. Those two being Corey Nelson and Zaire Anderson.

I have 27 players making it on defense because Derek Wolfe and T.J. Ward are serving suspensions.

The beginning of the season brings about new rules regarding the salary cap.

53 man roster + dead money + PS + IR = Cap Expenditures

We are no longer in the land of 51 where only the top 51 contracts count against the salary cap. We have entered no territory where four distinct categories add up to the total Cap Expenditures the Denver Broncos will have in 2014. Let's break down the 53 man roster as currently constituted. (Salary Figures taken from overthecap.com)

53-man roster

(The Prater situation is a bit messy. For now the cap is calculated based upon Brandon McManus' salary only)

Offense: 69,913,483

Defense + ST: 53,598,689

Total: 123,512,172

Dead Money

Includes 500k for Kevin Vickerson, 12,050K for Zac Dysert, and 22,750K for Matt Paradis

Total: 7,036,950

Injured Reserve

All players on injured reserve are paid their full annual salary

Total: 1,797,666

Practice Squad

This is an estimate. Practice Squad players make a minimum of 6K per week. Teams can play players more. Let's assume the Broncos are going to pay each PS member the weekly mimimum of 6K. That adds up to 102K for the season per player. Multiply that by 10 (the amount of players that can belong on a Practice Squad) for your minimum total:

Total (minimum): 1,020,000

So what is the Broncos 53 man roster + dead money + PS + IR?

133,366,788 million

What is the cap?

Our team cap (135,839,276) + our rollover (6,400,000) = 142,239,276

This number is supported by the NFLPA, and is similar on Overthecap.com

Approximately how much cap space do the Broncos have?

Team Cap (142,239,276) - 53/PS/IR/Dead Expenditures (133,366,788) = 8,872,488

Remember this is just an estimate. We will know more about the official numbers come Monday. This estimate is very close to the actual number though. The Broncos could look to rollover approximately 8 million into 2015 when the cap should increase even more. It will be an interesting offseason next year, but for a team that is supposedly "All-In" you have to like where this team is financially heading into an offseason where a lot of checks are going to come due.

GO BRONCOS!!!
