It was one heck of a sequence for Malik Jackson during a 3-play stretch on defense against Jacksonville. In the 3rd quarter, up by 9 points, Malik almost singlehandedly took over the series which resulted in 2 sacks, a tackle for loss, and one badly needed three and out. Here's how it went down!

Play #1, Sack

The Jaguars are in 11 personnel. They are going to run the "levels concept" in the passing game giving Henne three levels of the field to read, high to low off a playaction fake. Henne will fake the pitch to his left and bootleg out to the right. The only problem? The offensive line crashed down to the fake side in order to sell it, leaving Malik un-blocked. Malik does as he should, he holds his edge and charges upfield. He's strong enough to take Henne down with one paw.

Play #2, TFL

Here the Jags will run a counter play. The blocks are as shown. There's really a couple of keys here, the ability of the center to keep the backside 3-tech out of the A gap, the ability of the playside guard and tackle to keep the playside three tech free from crashing the A gap, and the ability of the pulling guard to seal off the edge (Jackson). Well, none of that happens. Knighton controls his man and crashes down playside, Unrein holds his ground and clogs up the initial running lane, and not only does Malik ragdoll and blow up the pulling guard, but Unrein creates such disruption that the TE fails to get outside for a potential block on the WILL. Malik made the play, he's extremely strong. But his line helped steer Maurice Jones Drew into his arms.

Play #3, Sack 2

Beautiful teamwork here. Three man rush. That's it--seven will drop into coverage. Malik and Shaun Phillips are going to run a stunt. What makes this play is the setup and quickness of Phillips. Shaun is going to stutter step to get the RT to square up. He will then use a violent rip move back to the inside which draws the hesitant and now behind LT with him. Malik loops around the edge. Phillips has taken away any protection from the edge as well as clogged up the guard from chasing down Malik. Once again, beautiful teamwork!

Here comes the rip back to the inside:

Also look at the 7 dropped into coverage. Where would you throw that ball???

Wrap-Up

We know that Malik is strong. But what has stuck out to me this season are his awareness of the play and his aggressiveness. Once he makes up his mind on how to attack, his speed is relentless.

The NFL has been put on notice, and with the help from teammates along the line such as Derek Wolfe, Kevin Vickerson, Terrance Knighton, Shaun Phillips, Robert Ayers, and Mitch Unrein, there is no doubt in my mind this is just the beginning.

A Mile High Salute to Malik Jackson and the men in the trenches!

Peyton has yet to throw an interception when pressured or blitzed. In fact his QBR is the highest when opposing teams have blitzed him. Bring more rushers and there's a better chance several of the four horsemen have one on ones.

Noticed that Peyton has not been sacked on a blitz either. Speaks volumes to the pass protection up front and the pickups by the backs.

Blitzing is not the answer folks.

Should fans boo a team with a halftime lead? Are the Broncos "soft" on offense? Is a pissed off Peyton Manning good or bad? Are Broncos fans spoiled? Is someone pushing pins into a Broncos voodoo doll?

Booing Fans

We all know what happened. The Broncos got off to a fast 14-pt lead, made some killer errors to stall drives, and gave life to a struggling team before halftime via one of the worst throws by Peyton Manning all season. Broncos try and move the ball, stall, and take a knee exiting the field to a chorus of boos.

There was widespread outrage and debate via social media with some folks saying "You don't ever boo your team, it's a disgrace!" and others saying "That's our prerogative as fans."

If Broncos fans were booing because the team looked flat, executed poorly, and played sloppily, then kudos! This team is better than that and it is completely fine that you booed them. That sort of display of football ineptitude against one of the worst teams in the league will get you a one way ticket back home in the playoffs. We are a better team than that and the players deserve to know that we as a fanbase are smart enough to recognize that fact.

If Broncos fans were booing because the Broncos had failed to cover the ridiculous line set by Vegas, or were booing because the Broncos "only" had a 2-point lead at halftime, that is a form of entitlement that makes Bronco Mike want to puke. I will get into this more later.

Soft???

I don't know if you folks noticed it, but I did and some of the staff noticed it as well. The Jags pushed around our offensive line, ate up ball carriers behind the LOS, and even popped Manning a couple of times, even once going low on a play that probably should have been flagged. The result? Offense sputtered into the 2nd half with perhaps the most cerebral signal caller in the game today making one of the dumbest decisions any QB this year has made. The offense was punched in the mouth and got off it's game.

I have to ask now because it is something that could come back to bite us later. Is this team a finesse team, or does it have a nasty streak just waiting to come out?

In the past, the kryptonite to a Peyton Manning led offense has been tough smashmouth defense. One that disrupts timing and makes the king of patience impatient. That 2011 offense may have been one of the worst in history, but one thing is for sure, you knew we would line up and ram the ball down your throats, laugh at you while stepping on your back, line up, and do it again and again. Which brings me to my next topic.

Peyton Manning PO'ed

Yesterday, Peyton Manning pulled out from under center too early and caused a fumble during an exchange. He admitted as much in the presser. Later on Manny Ramirez snapped the ball too low for the old man and in his advanced age, Peyton couldn't handle the snap and it was turned over, again. Both times Peyton neglected to dive back after the ball.

He was asked that during his presser and that exchange kicked off something I haven't seen that often, a pissed off Peyton Manning. He snapped back with (parapharasing) "I would be careful to draw any solid conclusions about me going after the ball off of two plays."

Vic Lombardi tweeted later that Peyton didn't like his "manhood" being questioned. The entire mood of the presser from that point was fantastic and you could tell Peyton was very annoyed. Is this good for football? Well, going back to my previous point about our offense being "soft" I would like to say it is. I hope Peyton goes to Lucas Oil field this week and burns that sum'bitch to the ground. I hope the entire Colts secondary already has reservations at the local burn unit because they will need some treatment after Sunday night.

One thing I know from experience is that you do not want to make someone who is the best at what they do angry, for any reason.

Broncos fans make me sick sometimes

Entitlement is a four-letter word for me and the Bro. You know what happened yesterday after the Broncos beat another NFL team by 16 points? We had a lot of complaining and headlines calling the victory "rough" or "ugly." You know the first statement I heard from a coworker today? "What did ya think about that Broncos game, they should have won by more right???"

There is something seriously wrong here. Expectations should be high, but from what I can tell we're the only team in the NFL with a fanbase that complains after a 35-19 victory. Go on over to the Jags website and read their remarks. They are HAPPY they lost by 16. It's like winning the super bowl for them.

Here's a reality check Broncos Country, and I hope you take this to heart. Two years ago we were cheering for Matt Prater to make kicks of 59 yards to tie the game, and 51 yards to win it. We were cheering for an offense to put together one decent drive after a seemingly never-ending string of three and outs.

Success I fear has come all too fast for a generation that has likely never lived through the kind of adversity that had Broncos fans living on billboards until they won a game, or accepting a tie as "half a loaf".

Peyton Manning is right, football is hard, and winning is hard. When you accomplish that goal to the tune of 16 points, there should be no complaints. You want to talk about our team honestly and break down things that we struggle with, I'm all for it. But lets not become a spoiled fanbase too ignorant to enjoy a 6-0 start after watching injury upon injury pile up one after another.

Who has the Voodoo Doll?

Each week someone gets hurt. Each week it is someone vital to our team. The defense has seen a multitude of injuries, our offensive line more than it's fair share. There is a curse in Broncos Country and I don't understand why. This week we're going to break it, and here's how. Go outside dressed in nothing but orange. Face east since that is where the super bowl is played this year. Hop up and down on one leg while patting your stomach and chanting "Go Broncos." Nevermind the people walking by that point and laugh, we have to break the curse. You must do this routine every day for the next week, up until kickoff on Sunday night. If you succeed, the injury bug will leave.

What are your musings and observations after a 16-point victory MHR???

Win pretty or win ugly, a win is a win is a win, and the Broncos won Sunday, so Broncos fans won too, and when Broncos fans win, the MHR Staff wins, and when the MHR staff wins, the MHR staff gives out Game Balls! Winning.

Knowshon Moreno

Despite playing behind an offensive line that struggled most of the game in both phases Moreno made the most of it with 3 touchdowns and 104 and actually lead the team with 7 receptions. He ran tough the whole game, getting hit often and early, often at or behind the line of scrimmage. He also had a huge impact in the blocking game in a game where the offensive line had one of their worst games of the season. This kid can really do it all, which explains why he gets a game ball every week. Oh and something to note, this season Moreno is average 2.6 yards after contact which means that about half of his total yards come after he is hit. - Topher Doll

Malik Jackson

After the offense made a statement with an opening 3rd quarter TD drive, Malik provided the answer on defense. In three successive plays he took over the game with a sack, tackle for loss, and another sack. The beast from the SEC is fast becoming a pass rushing threat on a squad that will only get better with the return of Von Miller. - Bronco Mike

Danny Trevathan

I'd like to officially declare Trevathan 'The Closer,' two weeks in a row he has closed the game out defensively and given the ball back to the offense with an opportunity to win the game. Trevathan has quite the line on the season as well: 41 total tackles on the season, 32 solo, a sack, three interceptions and six passes defensed. Trevathan only continued to get better on Sunday post a 6 tackle line with an interception and a pass defensed. - Ian Henson

Louis Vasquez

In my opinion, right guard Louis Vasquez has been Denver's second most consistent offensive lineman, only behind right tackle Orlando Franklin. So when Franklin went out with a knee injury (fingers crossed he's okay, but no one know for sure right now), Denver's o-line consistency could have potentially flown right out the window. Vasquez moved to right tackle, and Chris Kuper took his long-time spot at right guard. You might have expected some growing pains in Vasquez sliding outside of "the box" and into "the island," as he described it, but instead Vasquez and Kuper performed marvelously. Vasquez even executed the lead block on Knowshon Moreno's third touchdown run that sealed the victory for the Broncos. If Orlando Franklin misses some time, I feel pretty comfortable with Kuper at RG and Vasquez at RT. The Broncos just cannot lose anybody else - there are no more "next men up" to call upon! - Monty

David Bruton

Is there a better special teams player in the NFL right now? I think not. David Bruton had been craving a play call like that for quite some time and man it was nice. It's always great to have a Swiss army knife player like Bruton on the squad. - Mr. East.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the Broncos are planning to prepare for the Indianapolis Colts Week 7 matchup without Franklin.

With Vasquez on the outside and Kuper in at guard, the Broncos actually aren't in bad shape.

From 2007-2011, Kuper started in 72 games for the Broncos, allowing just 12 sacks. A Pro Bowl alternate in 2012, Kuper is an eighth-year veteran that is more than capable of filling in at guard with Vasquez on the outside.

For his part, Franklin seems to be in good spirits, but his status remains uncertain.

We are still awaiting word on Williams' injury.

In addition to Franklin and Williams, wide receiver Wes Welker, pass rusher Shaun Phillips, and defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson all left at varying points of the game and later returned. Fox only mentioned Franklin's and Williams' injuries in his post-game press conference.

Linebacker Wesley Woodyard (neck) and defensive end Robert Ayers (shoulder) were injured last week and did not play on Sunday. The team seems optimistic that both will return in time for next week's showdown in Indianapolis.

At 6-0, the Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs are the only two remaining undefeated teams in the NFL. As for the Broncos, injuries may be the only thing that can slow them down (Kansas City will be slowed down when they play Denver).

On a positive note, outside linebacker Von Miller's six-game suspension came to a conclusion after today's game. Miller will be allowed to practice with the team this week and play in Week 7.

Miller will be joining a Broncos pass rush that has featured Ayers (4.5 sacks), Phillips (5.5 sacks) and Malik Jackson (3.5 sacks) through six games. Denver's defense has been shaky at best in pass defense this season—Miller's return will help the team generate more of a pass rush going forward, which will help the secondary tremendously.

Check back as we continue to update this post with more information on the injuries suffered by Franklin and Williams as updates become available.
