Will Super Bowl XLVIII be the coldest Super Bowl ever?

Ever since it was announced that the new Met Life Stadium in New Jersey would host Super Bowl XLVIII there has been a lot of talk about whether or not a Super Bowl should be played in the cold weather. Well it looks like we won't find out that answer tonight as the temperatures are looking down right balmy for the Northeast in early February.

Lets take a look at your official Super Bowl XLVIII Weather Forecast.

(Via: Weather.com)

(Via: Accuweather.com)

These forecasts are pretty similar. Both are predicting temperatures to be near or above 50 degrees for day time highs, and lows near or a little below the freezing mark. However with kickoff around 6:30pm EST, the temperatures should be above 40 degrees. There's a slight chance for precipitation at night, but it appears that will hold off until after midnight.

Lets take a look at the hourly forecast for Sunday evening

The coldest Super Bowl on record is Super Bowl XI with a kickoff temperature of 39 degrees. If the forecast holds true, Super Bowl XI will continue to hold that record. It appears the temperatures will be in the low to mid 40's at kickoff. The temperatures were never a big issue anyways. What is more important is whether or not it will snow or rain, and if the wind will be a factor. There's only a 20% of precip from 6pm to 11pm, with a 30% of Rain/Snow Showers at midnight. The wind won't be a factor either. They're only calling for wind speeds of 5 to 10 mph. So after all that hype and endless talk about the weather, it will not have an effect on the game at all.

These weather forecasts are a huge plus for the Denver Broncos offense. Peyton Manning and company couldn't have asked for a more better forecast. Warm temperatures, no rain or snow, and little wind is perfect. So Peyton shouldn't have no trouble picking apart this Seattle Seahawks secondary.

Another thing this does is open up the possibility of another Super Bowl in a cold weather city. Broncos owner Mr. Pat Bowlen has always talked up his city as a potential Super Bowl site. The success of a Super Bowl in the northeast in early February has to make Denver a viable candidate to host a Super Bowl in the future.

1. Super Bowl Weather Update

The weather forecast for Super Bowl XLVIII has improved dramatically since earlier in the week. Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos will be looking at the mid-40s at game time to high 30s by the end of the game. With moderate wind speeds and very little chance of precipitation, there will be no excuse for this team to continue its march for the Lombardi Trophy. The chart just keeps improving each time I check, just yesterday it was supposed to be slightly cooler than it is now today. Either way, things are shaping up to be perfect football weather. Cold, but not freezing. Windy, but not blustery. Dry, but overcast. Love it!

2. Broncos Practicing Indoors

The Denver Broncos took to the indoor facility yesterday to work on the finer elements of Super Sunday's game plan. I love the massive banner of the Lombardi Trophy hanging from the walls of the practice facility. That's got to give players a little extra motivation as they go through their routines.

3. What Kind of Broncos Fan Are You?

Westword Blogs came out with an article covering the Top 12 Broncos fans you have probably met in your lifetime. Reading through the list I can see quite a few commonalities with certain people I know and if I had to grade myself then I would have to go with "The Curmudgeon". I'm not 60+, but on game day you better shut your trap and let me get my Broncos fed to me in a steady dose via radio, television and web.

What cracked me up was the labels I began putting on those of you heavily active in your game day threads.

4. Politicians Are Idiots (Or Are They?)

I tried to downplay the political hate earlier this week over that Washington Senator's snafu on Twitter, but now we have our own Colorado Governor renaming mountains for players. Seriously? As a historically-minded person, this is about the most short-sighted stupidity I've ever heard of.

However, then I read the proclamation and saw that he only enacted it for Super Bowl Sunday. Therefore, I am fully on board with this awesomeness. What can I say, it won't negatively affect history and I love me some Broncos ... so...

5. Bronco Mike Rules Twitter

A company called Market Wired conducts an annual study on Twitter over how much people are tweeting about the big game. The dropped this infographic a few days ago and lo and behold there's Mile High Report staffer Bronco Mike right there as one of the biggest Broncos tweets on the net.

6. Vernon Davis a Broncos?

All-world stud tight end, Vernon Davis, of the San Francisco 49ers said on SiriusXM Radio yesterday afternoon that he would love to play on the same team as Peyton Manning before his career is over. Considering Manning only has a couple of years left anyway, this is something that would have to happen soon.

Even more damning perhaps is that Vernon doesn't seem to like getting laid out whenever Colin Kaepernick throws him a pass. This was something I saw all year long having watched a lot of 49er games. If I were him, I'd want to play for a better quarterback too.

I don't know about you, but the thought of having Vernon Davis and Julius Thomas on the field at the same time makes my head hurt - especially when factoring in Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker and Wes Welker. It's like too many weapons man!

He is a known Seahawks homer and "calls bullshit" on the Broncos run defense that finished in the Top 10 for the year. Unsurprisingly he concluded the Broncos offensive line that was ranked by PFF as the best in the league would not be able to hold back the Seahawks pass rush.

The weather for the big game has improved dramatically since our last update.

"What I figured about the weather is, you just wait five minutes and it will change," Broncos coach John Fox said today. He couldn't have been more right.

Just over a day ago, we reported forecasts that had the temperature somewhere between 25-40 degrees for the game. My how things have changed for the better. Not only is it going to be warmer, but the change of precipitation has gone down as has the projected wind speed.

I was actually shocked by the change so much, that I pulled updates from two different sources to make sure and sure enough here they agreed with the drastic change.

(via Weather.com)

(via Accuweather.com)

That is pretty much a 10 degree shift in the daytime high, which means it should be considerably warmer at kickoff late that Sunday afternoon. In fact, a check of the hourly forecast from another source shows an 8 degree difference between the forecast a day or so ago and today's forecast.

(via Wunderground.com)

The wind speed isn't too different, but for as much play as the weather for this Super Bowl has gotten and how much the Denver Broncos coaching staff and players have had to downplay its affect on their offense, they will absolutely take these improved conditions over a more cold and blustery day.

This news only helps the Broncos in their matchup against the Seattle Sehawks. Let's hope it holds up!

The only thing bigger than the Super Bowl this year has been the hype around playing the Super Bowl outside in February in a cold weather city.

Once it was announced that New York/New Jersey would host Super Bowl XLVIII and that teams would play outside in February. There were all sorts of weather forecasts calling for major winter storms and possible blizzards and we were several months from even starting the NFL Season. It doesn't look like we will be getting that though.

Now we're only four days away from the big game, lets take a look at the weather forecast for the Super Bowl.

(Via: Weather.com)

Things are looking better every day. Highs near 40 in early February don't happen very often, so the NFL has to be happy with this result.

Kickoff will be around 6:30-6:45 so the night time forecast is what we should be paying attention too. A low of 26 might seem cold to some of you, but being a fellow New Yorker, I can tell you that's pretty good for this time of the year. There looks to be o rain or snow in the forecast, so that's a plus for the Denver offense. My biggest weather concern was the wind, and It looks like that will also be a non-factor as well. North winds at 5 mph shouldn't effect either offenses.

Here's a hourly forecast for Sunday...

(Via: wunderground.com)

Highs around kickoff are forecasted to be in the mid 30's with overcast skies with winds between 5 to 10 mph. It doesn't appear that the temperatures will dip below 30 degrees by the end of the game.

So much for the Super Bowl being played in a blizzard and extreme cold.

If the Super Bowl is played without any issues from the cold temperatures, one has to wonder if Roger Goodell, and the voting committee who votes on the locations of the Super Bowls would have another Super Bowl played in a cold weather city.

Check back with MHR throughout the rest of the week for updates on the forecast for Super Bowl XLVIII.

Your Super Bowl 2014 weather forecast calls for seasonable temperatures, but will it snow or rain?

Super Bowl XLVIII will be the first Super Bowl to be played outdoors in a cold weather environment. The game will take place at MetLife Stadium - the home stadium of the New York Giants and New York Jets - in East Rutherford New Jersey.

Since there's some controversy about whether or not a Super Bowl should be held outside in a cold weather environment, the forecast for this game will be closely watched. So since we're a week away from the Super Bowl, lets take a look at the current forecast.

(Via: Weather.com)

Not a bad looking forecast if you ask me. A low of 27 degrees, with only a 30% chance of Rain/Snow. Also the winds wouldn't be a factor with winds at 5 mph. Things could be much much worse in New Jersey in early February.

Weather.com has a cool article on the potential weather scenarios for the Super Bowl. Here's their two main weather stories that they're focusing on.

Not as cold: Just in time, it appears the frigid cold from earlier in the week will relent. Instead of daily highs in the teens and 20s, it appears 30s or even perhaps low 40s will be in play for the big weekend, closer to average for early February.

Snow, freezing rain, or rain?: To be clear, we are not anticipating a major storm with heavy precipitation to affect the Northeast on Super Bowl weekend. However, we are expecting a frontal system to slide into the Northeast Saturday, potentially stalling out into Super Bowl Sunday. With colder air retreating, all precipitation types, from snow, to sleet, freezing rain, even rain, are on the table with this system. While the majority of our guidance suggests most of this precipitation may fall Saturday into early Sunday, we still can't rule out any lingering precipitation during the game itself.

The NFL seems to have dodged a bullet here with this current weather forecast. We're still a week away until kick off so there's plenty of time for this forecast to change.

Either way the Broncos will be prepared to go out and dominate no matter the weather conditions. Also as MHR's own Bronco Mike pointed out, the narrative that Peyton Manning cannot play in the cold is nothing more then a myth. So the cold will not effect Manning next weekend.

How do you think Peyton Manning and the Broncos will handle the cold and possibly snowy/rainy Super Bowl weather?

There's a chance it will be snowy come Super Bowl Sunday - any early look at the weather is a little pointless at this, erm, point - but the forecast right now calls for temps in the 20's and 30's.

Luckily, the Broncos were able to practice in even colder temps Thursday - nine degrees at the start of practice.

Thursday marked Denver's first practice for Super Bowl XLVIII, and while Knowshon Moreno and Tony Carter practicing are certainly good signs, the biggest story is the weather. A double-gloved Manning warmed up (get it?) with his teammates Thursday, beginning to establish their gameplan for the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks. Mitch Unrein was the only player to miss Broncos' practice.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin has been cleared to practice, and did so with the team on Wednesday. He's a potential game-changer, with size, speed, and not a lot of film in Seattle's offense for the Broncos to look at. Harvin destroyed the Broncos as a Viking back in 2011 (8 rec, 156 yards, 2 TDs), and he could be just the ticket for getting Russell Wilson out of his current slump.

RB Marshawn Lynch missed practice Wednesday for Seattle (knee). Not earth-shattering, but something to keep an eye on if he misses any more. Two other Seahawks were held out of practice as well. We'll have an injury/practice report up later today.

Peyton Manning is on the regional cover of Sports Illustrated - it's the third time in the month of January that the Broncos have graced SI's cover.

Would the NFL possibly postpone or reschedule the Super Bowl due to inclement weather? From Newsday: "The current extended forecast for the day of the game calls for cold weather (a high of 29 degrees and a low of 18) -- but no precipitation. But if there is an unexpected storm that brings the metropolitan area to a halt, then the league has contingency plans to reschedule the game for a different date. That could mean moving it to Saturday, Feb. 1, or Monday, Feb. 3. Or it could be moved back even further."
