Hello Broncos Country! With the close of the preseason, this will (hopefully) be the final evaluation of Brock Osweiler until next season.

There wasn't a lot of negatives to take away from his final performance. The offense had eight drives and managed to score 24-points. Brandon McManus missed a FG so it could have been more. They managed to score a FG in the two-minute drill before halftime and then came out and scored a TD on the first drive of the 3rd quarter. Let's take a look at 3rd downs.

3rd down efficiency: Dallas

Overall, the Broncos were 5-9 (55.5%) on 3rd downs. The issue wasn't the passing game, the issue was the short running game which failed to convert on 3rd and 2 and 3rd and 1 twice. One first down was gained via penalty, but Brock was 4-4 on his opportunities starting with this curl route to Jacob Tamme:

The protection holds up and Brock delivers an accurate ball right to the numbers before Tamme makes his break. Looks like a standard Cover-2 sink coverage from the Cowboys meaning a lot of zone. This next play showed Osweiler's maturity in the pocket.

There are a lot of cues that Dallas is going to bring the blitz. Coupled with traffic at the LOS, you have secondary players at the top of the screen that are playing way-off. The Corner on the bottom also starts with outside leverage meaning he is going to funnel anything deep back to the middle of the field where you have a single safety. Call this Cover 1 with a corner blitz. Look how sneaky the LB is dropping to a zone on that inside crosser.

Forget the defense though, Brock is going to get nailed and he knows it. He stands strong and delivers an accurate ball to Isaiah Burse over the middle. When we look at the next angle we can more or less see that Brock is throwing to a spot. This spot is low and away from the defender keeping both his receiver and the ball safe. It takes guts to stand and deliver knowing you're going to take a beating.

I apologize for the size of the next one, the Dallas announcers had a split screen. Out of the trips formation, Morrah works his way into the flat and breaks a tackle for a 5-yard gain on 3rd down. Oz also had Jordan Palmer on the crosser. It's an easy read and throw with the off coverage due to the bunch.

Finally, we have some YAC.

The Dallas LB's end up picking each other on the short cross by Latimer. Quick accurate throw that Latimer turns into a foot race. Gauging his open-field speed, the eye tells me he's faster than Demaryius thomas in the open field. He outruns his blocker Juwan Thompson down the field.

3rd down efficiency: Preseason

Under Brock Osweiler, the Denver Broncos offense converted 13/24 3rd down opportunities (54.2%). Last season, San Diego converted 49% of their 3rd down opportunities which was the highest mark in the NFL.

Brock Osweiler on 3rd downs: 11-13 (84.6%), 184 yards (14.2 APA), 10 conversions.

Add another conversion on a 3rd down scramble and Brock accounted for 85% of the Broncos 3rd down conversions.

The Deep Ball

Brock is 5-10 on all passes 20 yards or more down the field. He has worked both sides of the field equally. Ball placement is something he'll need to work on a little bit more.

The ball is out quick so Brock is choosing a spot to the field to throw to. When we see where it ends up, closer to the boundary on what would be the outside shoulder, it's not a bad throw.....except Bubba Caldwell has to slow down and awkwardly torque his body (as if to catch a back shoulder throw) in order to make the catch. This sort of tells me that Oz underestimated Caldwell's speed. But let's go to the next deep throw.

Latimer has about a half step. He is capable of making this play, but Brock leaves the throw too much to the inside. Cody has to turn into a DB and break up a possible INT.

Brock has had some nice passes outside the numbers, and he's had some poor ones. It goes with the territory. Last season the most prolific deep ball passer was Russell Wilson. Wilson had 60 attempts and managed to complete 28 of them (46.7%) for 9 TD's and 5 INT's. Peyton Manning was a close 2nd (at least in percentage) 38-83 (45.8%) for 12 TD's and 5 INT's. From the numbers outside, Brock is 3-8 for 100 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT. Small sample size but similar numbers when you include a drop.

Something that Osweiler has excelled with is passing the ball down the seams.

The ball is out on rhythm. The only issue I have is with the placement. It is slightly high to a receiver like Burse. If you were playing against a secondary that is more aggressive, that leaves the ball or your receiver in danger. In the end it was a nice read to split the zone coverage underneath and the single high safety over the top. Brock's vision in the middle of the field is top notch and this next play is the prime example of why.

This is an absolute laser that splits triple coverage. Here's the endzone view.

I can watch this all day. Perfect ball splitting textbook cover two zone. Watch both safeties clear toward the boundary, the Mike coverage responsibilities fall to #45 who reads Brock's eyes but is too late to help. The ball falls over both linebackers and to the inside of the safety keeping Morrah safe and sound from a big hit.

Speaking of big hits, with that big body does Oz take them?

Brock is down safely off of this read-option. Maybe he can teach RGIII to slide?

The shove at the end is a bit dirty, but at no point in this 26 yard scramble is the lumbering 6'8" Osweiler in danger of becoming a turf stain.

Osweiler is big, strong, athletic. But he isn't a Ben Roethlisberger. Brock can scramble and buy time without becoming a heavy bag.

That's 21 drives yielding 7 touchdowns and 1 field goal. Three missed field goals, two interceptions, and a turnover on downs highlight the bad. So what does this mean? It means that in 21 drives, the Broncos offense under Brock Osweiler managed to score 52 points. Broken down by drive that gives them a 2.48 points per drive average. Looking back at 2013, only the Manning-led Broncos (2.98) averaged more points per drive. Pre-season aside, you can say the offense was more than efficient. In fact the 6.2 yards per play would have tied them with the 2nd ranked Philadelphia offense last season.

Something else impressive to notice are the lack of three and outs. This squad only committed three of them (14.3%).

Get rid of time to attempt, I have no idea what difference that is to time to throw. Average time to throw is on all dropbacks. Osweiler started off at about 2.6 seconds and finished there. Remember, this time puts him top 7 in the NFL compared to last years passers. He has some work to do in order to catch Manning, but it can come with time and study. Look at the time to sack. Brock's average is much quicker than Peyton's--just an indicator of the level of lines they played against this preseason. For those that think he takes off and runs after his first read is covered, check out the 4.36 seconds to scramble. That number tells me quite the opposite.

Brock Osweiler's final throwing chart

I could have used the one from PFF, but I dont' like it. The reason being they only divide the field into three main areas, outside the numbers and middle. The middle of the field is quite large and I like the idea of more accurately pinpointing the throws. Everything should be self explanatory. Green is a completion, Red is an incompletion. The five main areas are now the space between the numbers and boundary, the space between a hash and the numbers, and the space between the hashes.

LOS= Line of Scrimmage

LB=Left Boundary

LN=Left Numbers

LH=Left Hash etc...

Not sure if this is a "thing" with right handed QB's, but throwing to their right seems to happen more infrequent than throwing to their left. What we see though is a passer that is capable of attacking the defense on all levels of the field.

Final Verdict

Brock is coming along well. He has all the physical tools--this preseason he has started to put together his understanding of the game together with his capabilities and there are lots of promising signs of improvement some of which show through on a play to play basis, others represented by the overall success of the offense.

I am confident in my analysis that Brock's ceiling is still very high. Does that mean he will be an elite QB someday? Could be, the potential is certainly there. Bottom line, Brock will go as far in this game as he wants to. If he were to approach the level of dedication and study that Peyton Manning puts in every week, the future of the Denver Broncos shines bright.

The stage isn't too big for Brock Osweiler. He can make all the throws. He has shown the ability to read defenses at least on a base-intermediate level. He has shown the ability to remain cool in pressure situations, and he can use his legs to make plays that aren't there. That being said, I hope we only get to see him in mop-up duty this season.

In his final analysis of the offensive line during the Broncos-Cowboys final preseason game, CH74 says he has complete confidence in the backups.

It is fitting that the end of these awesome preseason O-Line scouting reports comes during "Cut Weekend" - both are sad events to endure, we wish all players (and writers) well in their future endeavors and hope they involve the Broncos.

The good news on our end - actually, the superb news - is that CH74 has so graciously agreed to continue the scouting reports for one Broncos game a month to help us understand how our starting offensive line play is doing and progressing throughout the season. So rather than watch players go the Practice Squad or to another team, CH74 is going nowhere and will keep providing this excellent analysis for Weeks 5 (Arizona), 8 (San Diego), 12 (Miami) and 17 (Oakland)!

The superb news is that CH74 has graciously agreed to continue these scouting reports for four games this season - Arizona, San Diego, Miami and Oakland.

And before we get to it, I want to thank CH74 for taking on this project. It all started because he made a couple great comments defending Chris Clark's O-Line play that I quoted in a story about the offensive line. Taking some bait from me and several readers to do more extensive analysis, he signed on to answer some questions about the O-Line for each game to be wrapped into one final story. Since his first report was so thorough and magnificent, there was really only one option - a four-part series.

It has been fabulous making this happen, especially because I've learned A TON about the offensive line (who knew?) and have obviously helped (only by virtue only of my power to publish) make a lot of MHR readers very happy about the insider analysis.Thank you, CH74...you get a Game Ball!

Second Team Offense

LT Paul Cornick (#71): Cornick had another rough outing against the Cowboys. He was stood up by his man on three consecutive plays. It seems as if Cornick refuses to play with any leverage and relies on brute force to win his match-ups. This is not a winning strategy in the NFL; you play with technique or you go home.I would have predicted Cornick going home.

Cornick also got hit with a holding penalty that stalled a drive and followed it up with an allowed sack on Osweiler. Cornick was beaten by a strong outside move and was caught reaching on the play. My mother always told me if I didn't have anything nice to say, not to say anything at all. I know the MHR faithful will forgive me here, because we all want the scoop!

LG Ben Garland (#63): Garland had somewhat of a bounce-back performance, and his trademark hustle was once again on display. Ben looked very solid in the early going but appeared to be tired and hurt in the fourth quarter. That isn't a surprise considering the Dallas game is probably the most time he has spent on a football field in a few years. Garland and Montgomery botched a transition block on No. 60 Davon Coleman in the run game during the Broncos' first drive that ended up stalling out.

Garland also had a lapse in his pass protection on the Broncos second drive where he was nearly beaten by a strong outside rush. I would like to see Garland deliver a punch there to help redirect the pass rusher.

C Will Montgomery (#64): Montgomery was a little up and down again. He had a solid run block on the first play of the game, knocking his man down. I did notice Montgomery get caught high on a few occasions. I also caught him blocking into the second level without finishing his first level block. Getting to the second level doesn't help much if your initial block isn't sustained long enough to get back to the second level! Once again, conditioning seems to be an issue with Montgomery. He'll make the roster, but he needs to spend some extra time with Luke Richesson in case Manny happens to go down.

RG Vinston Painter (#70): Painter had a nice game and worked well in tandem with Montgomery. Vinston logged a pancake on No. 70 Dartwan Bush. Painter moved his feet well with the exception of the first play of the Broncos second drive. This appeared to be a busted play, so I am not judging Painter too harshly on it. He bounced back with solid play to finish out the drive. (*editor's note: Painter was among players cut on Friday and was claimed by Cleveland Browns Tuesday.)

RT Michael Schofield (#79): Schofield started the game strong but had a couple rookie hiccups throughout the game. Schofield was called for illegal hands to the face, which was a back-breaker. He also got completely blown up by Bush on the same busted play that had Painter looking like he had two left feet. Overall, the rookie right tackle had a solid game. He showed good hustle down field and is showing a little more polish than he did in his first performance against the Niner's.

Reserves

C Matt Paradis (#61): Paradis entered the game in relief of Montgomery for the fourth quarter and performed admirably. He did get caught high and was over extended on a couple plays but overall, he played well against a demoralized Dallas Defense. (*editor's note: Paradis was among the Saturday cuts and was named to Practice Squad Sunday.)

CH74's Score: PB (=) RB (=) HD (=) LV (-) FT (=) PL/T () PNT (=)

RG Ryan Miller (#73): Miller also performed nicely in late-game action to finish out a beaten Dallas defense. Miller logged a nice pancake block on No. 79 Zach Minter to start the second drive of the fourth quarter. Miller did get beat by a strong inside bull rush later in the drive. Ryan finished out the game with two solid displays of pass protection, two solid run blocks, and the best trap block I saw in the game! (*editor's note: Unfortunately the trap block did not keep him on the team as Miller was one of the early team cuts.)

Final notes from the preseason:

The preseason has come to an end. The coaching and scouting staff have some hard work on their hands, trimming the roster down to 53. I have seen some good play and some sloppy play. Most importantly, I have seen enough to have confidence in our backups.

Most of our second unit has improved over the course of these games, but unfortunately, there isn't a surprise starter coming out of the depths of the roster.

I have been hammering away in the comments of several threads the one point I have taken away from this in depth look at the second unit and that is our depth is just fine!

CH74's Kudos:

This scouting project has been a lot of fun for me, and I would like to cap it off by giving some Kudos. I would have given horseshoes, but they were already taken!

One player in this bunch of misfits showed steady improvement throughout the preseason. This player started out a little rough, but kept upping his game. I have to give the nod for Most Improved Player to Vinston Painter. Keep it up, Vinston!

From the very first preseason game, the one player who shocked and amazed me with his play is Ben Garland. I didn't expect Ben to be as far along as he is as a converted defensive tackle. Ben Garland is my Surprise Player of the Preseason. Keep Grindin, Ben!

I give my final nod and Kudos of the preseason to you, the readers. It has been my pleasure sharing the little bit of knowledge I have of the game with you. I'm honored so many of you read and participated. -CH74

I haven't been alone in putting together these reports for you, as you all know. I have had the help of an awesome staffer that ensures these reports go out to a wider audience. She is also the mastermind for this whole endeavor! When a PhD and Rodney A. conspire against you, it's hard to say no. Dr. Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann, it has been an honor and a pleasure working on this project with you. Thank you for being a great facilitator and the one who makes sure that my I's are dotted and my T's are crossed! (*last editor's note: [blush] The pleasure has been all mine! Thanks for agreeing to be conspired against - haha!)

I would also like to give a shout out to KRONK-00 for inspiring the "KRONK Kode"! I hope the tool has proved helpful in cutting through the Anal-ese speak in these reports.

Last but certainly not least, I give my final nod and Kudos of the preseason to you, the readers of these scouting reports. It has been my pleasure sharing the little bit of knowledge I have of the game with you. I am honored that so many of you read these reports and participated in the comments.

The Broncos pummeled the Cowboys 27-3 Thursday in preseason action, and when the Broncos win, the Mile High Report staff gives out Game Balls!

QB Brock Osweiler

Brock finished off the preseason with a good all-around effort. He showed poise from the pocket, and the ability to stand in to take a hit while delivering the ball downfield. Some of his touch is still a little bit off, but this was a very successful pre-season for the third year player who is still only 23 years of age. In this game Brock finished off the game 9-13 (69.2%) for 190 yards (14.6 YPA) and a 111.9 passer rating , leading the 2nd team offense to 24 points on 8 drives. For the preseason Brock was 29-49 (59.2%), for 423 yards (8.6 YPA) with 2 TD, 2 INT for an 84.0 passer rating. Take into account that Broncos receivers dropped 9 of his passes.

The 2nd team offense under Brock finished 13-23 on 3rd downs (56.5%). They also had 8 scoring drives with 7 TD and 1 FG. - Bronco Mike

RB Kapri Bibbs

In a post-game interview Kapri Bibbs said that he was going for the hat trick, 'Hat trick!?' said someone off camera (presumably Mitch Unrein), "Boy, you from the Mountain West!" Bibbs fired back.

What Bibbs was saying is completely true, Bibbs doesn't run for touchdowns, he runs for groups of them and fans who were pumped to see Juwan Thompson run psychotic through Dallas's defense got served Bibbs instead. The offensive line was on point, Thompson mustered 41 yards on 13 runs, Bibbs nabbed 32 yards on 7 runs and had two touchdowns. Was it enough for young Bibbs to make the team? Maybe not, but as Bibbs said he did prove that he is good, "Enough to play for someone in the NFL."

And if Denver stays young at running back, it will be Thompson who is the odd man out. - Ian Henson

DT Mitch Unrein

Unrein showed versatility and hustle in his fourth preseason game, knowing his job was on the line. Starting at defensive end, Unrein would move back and forth between the outside and inside of the defensive line and make every snap count. His sack was remarkable. He found the inside edge, gained leverage with one arm, and kept his legs firing. - Monty

WR Isaiah Burse

Isaiah Burse is a wide receiver signed to a team with Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Wes Welker plus a second round draft pick of wide receiver Cody Latimer. When you come in knowing you are basically trying to get a fifth spot on a receiver-rich team, you’ve got your work cut out from before day one.

Burse knows he needs to make the roster via special teams, and despite a bit of rocky start last night, he showed some great refocus and promising skill.

In spite of a bobbled fair catch, he finished with two kickoff returns for a total of 42 yards and two punt returns for 44 yards total. The former Fresno State Bulldog also turned in 4 catches for 65 yards, including a 28-yard grab. Those are good enough stats for the bench, I’d say, and a solid showing on an important night. - Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann

RB Juwan Thompson

His stats really don't jump off the page, but he has passed the eye test for me. He's a tough one cut downhill runner with excellent vision who has looked like the best running back of the group this preseason. He will also run right through you. He always knocks the defender backwards, and his legs keep pushing for the extra yard or two. This is the exactly the type of back John Fox likes.

Thompson finished the preseason with 29 carries for 143 yards(4.9 YPC), and 3 catches for 23 yards, and has earned my game ball for his overall work this preseason. - Scotty Payne

Honorable mentions

K Brandon McManus. Sure he missed two long field goal attempts that had he made at least one, his spot on the team for longer than four weeks would be a no-brainer. But he made a solid 39-yarder and had great kick-offs. For a young guy who became a Bronco two days ago, hadn't practiced with the team and was thrust into the spotlight, I give him a game ball, even if it's the last Broncos ball he kicks. - Laurie

LB Corey Nelson. One person close to the Broncos told me my depth chart projection was a little off in that it was missing this Broncos draft pick. Nelson has been the Broncos' leader in tackles throughout the preseason, he led the team in tackles last night, and he also had one of the higher snap counts. We'll see how the roster sorts itself in the days ahead! - Monty

Kapri Bibbs, Isaiah Burse and Mitch Unrein made things interesting for John Elway and John Fox.

The Broncos are preparing to whittle down the most talented roster most fans have ever seen. Head Coach John Fox would agree.

"It's the strongest we've been in our tenure here," Fox said Thursday. "John Elway and his staff have done a tremendous job building that depth."

That depth stifled the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth week of the preseason to under 200 yards of total offense and only three points. Earlier in the preseason, this defensive depth shut-out the San Francisco 49ers with a fourth quarter goal line stand. This Broncos depth ranked tops across many defensive categories during the 2014 NFL preseason.

That says nothing of the offense, where rookie wide receiver Cody Latimer has made 50-plus yard catches in two different preseason games and would likely be a starter on many other NFL teams. In Denver, he's fifth on the receiver depth chart. Tight end Cameron Morrah made a couple of very nice catches late in Thursday's game, but there's barely a slim chance he makes the team.

The next 36 hours will be the toughest personnel period of John Fox's tenure as Broncos coach and John Elway's tenure as GM.

"Obviously, there are some very hard decisions we have to make over the next 48 hours," Fox said Thursday night after the game. "That's never the fun part of this job, but we will do our very best to take the best 53."

"Everybody played hard, and that's all you can ask for," defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson said. "At the end of the day, play hard and lay it out on the line."

Below we revisit our earlier look at Denver's final six position battles following their final preseason game.

Defensive tackle

Defensive tackle is the toughest position the Broncos must settle, by far, with everyone who played Thursday doing nothing to make the decision easy. Kevin Vickerson has the height and size that you can't teach the likes of Sione Fua and Marvin Austin; now healthy, he co-led the Broncos defense with five tackles on the night.

"My body feels great," said Vickerson. "I'm not having issues with the hip. I'm not having issues with anything. All extremities are good. I'm just trying to put it all back together like it was before."

Marvin Austin had a smothering hit on Dustin Vaughan shortly after the Cowboys QB got rid of the football late in the fourth quarter, showing his hustle from the game's first whistle to its last. He started alongside Vickerson at DT.

Mitch Unrein had a brutal sack on third down in the third quarter. "I thought I had a safety, but a sack is fine with me," said Unrein. "I just have to work on my sack dance because I didn't have anything planned."

On the sack, Unrein found leverage and kept his feet pumping. The relentlessness of his pursuit this late in the third quarter, and on a third down, made it all the more impressive. Unrein started at defensive end and may have done enough to be that fifth defensive tackle, should the Broncos keep five.

Sione Fua had another solid outing, shooting past blockers on one Cowboys play to tackle the running back, but he appears be the odd man out in this group.

Backup strong safety

With the defensive line terrorizing Dallas quarterbacks, the Broncos' safeties didn't see a lot of opportunities for big-play action. For what it's worth, Duke Ihenacho, who led Broncos safeties in tackles with two Thursday, seemed pretty confident he is making the team.

Third quarterback

Zac Dysert's final line: 4 of 7 for 43 yards. He led one scoring drive at the end of the game, where he was asked to kneel for two plays in order to set up Brandon McManus' 39-yard field goal attempt. One wonders if he could have found the end zone given the chance. A few inaccurate deep throws were compensated with a nice checkdown to Cameron Morrah in the fourth quarter that showed him go through his progressions nicely.

Still, I'm not a big fan of Dysert's, and I'm definitely not a fan of keeping three quarterbacks for the sake of keeping three quarterbacks. I'm hoping the Broncos make better use of this roster spot than a weekly inactive in Dysert, but it's worth noting that John Fox has always kept three quarterbacks on the roster in Denver.

Backup running backs

Did things get a little cloudier at the running back postiion?

Kapri Bibbs is making things interesting between him and Juwan Thompson.

— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) August 29, 2014

I've been on the Juwan Thompson bandwagon since Week 1 of the preseason,. But since that explosive 9.8-average debut, Thompson has averaged just 3.6 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Kapri Bibbs has averaged 4.4 yards per carry in the same span, all while tallying three preseason touchdowns to Thompson's zero.

Thompson has the size edge on Bibbs. He lined up as a fullback on at least one snap, a tantalizing possibility for the rookie and a feather in his cap as he aims to lock a roster spot. I also saw him impressively pick up a blitz on Brock Osweiler's red zone scramble. Big Brock actually didn't have to run; Thompson had it locked down.

But there's something just as impressive about Bibbs. His vision and fearlessness when running into small running lanes leaves defenders blind to his position and vulnerable to his speedy bursts into the second level - in this case, the end zone.

"This is the last game," Bibbs said Thursday. "Only God knows if this was my last one, but I wanted to make sure it was a good one. I left it all out there and wanted to have fun too."

Bibbs said he wanted to make his coaches' decision hard, and in my opinion, he succeeded in that goal. Other teams will see that touchdown; they'll see his 30 college touchdowns from 2013, and somebody will take a chance on him. I'm not sure I want to risk either Thompson or Bibbs on the practice squad. Perhaps it's C.J. Anderson who loses his roster spot to the similar Thompson and the speedy Bibbs.

Interior offensive line

The question remains whether the Broncos will keep eight or nine offensive linemen. In each of the two previous years, they've kept nine; however, I've argued that the versatility of Orlando Franklin, Chris Clark, Manny Ramirez, and Will Montgomery gives the Broncos a lot of flexibility. If anyone goes down on the first-team offensive line, Montgomery comes in, and you can shuffle the pieces to keep four of your five best blockers on the field. (Even if left tackle Clady goes down, it's Montgomery who comes in: you move Chris Clark back to left tackle, Orlando Franklin back to right tackle (where each player played in the Super Bowl), and Montgomery into left guard. You can follow that sort of starter-shuffle logic across every position of the offensive line).

I also think Michael Schofield makes this team as the Broncos' third tackle, despite his mostly rough game Thursday night, leaving one or two spots open for a center and/or a guard.

With that in mind, I was most focused on Ben Garland, and my overall impression was good. It was his first career start, and he had a number of good run blocks where he sealed the running lane for Kapri Bibbs, especially on Bibbs' first four-yard touchdown. He also missed on some blocks; one in the first quarter saw him struggle to get any movement against his opponent, and even lose ground behind the line of scrimmage on a running play. But I think Garland had more good plays than bad. I'm not comfortable with the idea of him playing at left guard anytime soon, but there's no one else on the roster that makes me feel any more comfortable.

Slot receiver/punt returner

Through three quarters of Thursday's game, I didn't think Isaiah Burse had done enough to earn a roster spot. While there wasn't anyone on the Broncos roster to push him, I didn't think he would survive the temptation that the hundreds of other players hitting the waiver wire would present.

A few punt returns and impressive catches out of the slot later, I saw enough to think Burse probably will keep his roster spot. It's not a sure thing; if a guy with more NFL return experience becomes available, the Broncos may come a-knockin'. But 151 all-purpose yards made Burse's position a whole lot more comfortable Thursday.

"I'm blessed. I'm happy. This is a dream. I got through a whole NFL training camp and four games of preseason." - Isaiah Burse

"I'm blessed. I'm happy. This is a dream. I got through a whole NFL training camp and four games of preseason," said Burse. "I know a lot of dudes would like to be in my position right now. I feel like I gave it my all out there. I'll be happy end with result just because I know I left it all on the field tonight. I did some pretty good things. If I end up not in Denver, I won't be heartbroken because I played my heart out tonight."

I'll be back with my final 53-man roster projection later today. In the meantime, tell me how you saw these Broncos position battles in the comments!

Despite a game featuring the backups, Broncos fans were not disappointed.

27-3, great highlights to talk about, slew of great players to choose the final 53, an orange and blue sunrise, and guess what?

Regular season starts now.

Lots to talk about this morning so get your coffee and strap in because this could be a wild ride.

In a game that featured the second and third stringers, Broncos fans were still treated to an offensive and defensive domination that just made waiting for the next two weeks to go by that much harder.

The depth on offense and defense is almost obscene, making cut decisions today and this weekend a formidable task.

"It's the strongest we've been in our tenure here," head coach John Fox said after the 27-3 spanking by the Broncos over the Cowboys. "John Elway and his staff have done a tremendous job building that depth. Now it's just a matter of starting the regular season and staying healthy throughout."

Amen to that. But after last night's performance by just about everybody, I feel really confident that this Broncos team is among the best its had, and that's saying a lot given the comparisons we get to make.

Quarterback Brock Osweiler showed poise and patience that makes me very confident for the future of this franchise.

The #Broncos offense under Brock Osweiler so far this preseason is 13-22 on 3rd downs (59.1%) That's a great number.

Throwing 9 of 13 for 190 yards with four scoring drives, three of which were touchdowns, Osweiler looked extremely comfortable out there, even under pressure. And his press conference was reminiscent of ...now who was that other quarterback? Oh yeah, No. 18.

"It all starts with the offensive line. I thought the second group played lights out," Osweiler said. "It was a great team effort tonight."

I don't know about lights out; Osweiler made some great plays and several scrambles to get the ball out, like that spectacular grab by Andre Caldwell.

I didn't actually see the catch. But I know Bubba went up there and made a great play for me. I thanked him for it right afterwards. -Brock Osweiler, quarterback

"I didn't actually see the catch," Osweiler said of the play. "I saw the ball come out of my hand so I definitely know it was behind, not exactly where I wanted to place that football. But I know Bubba went up there and made a great play for me. I thanked him for it right afterwards."

And Osweiler's offensive line should thank him for not making them look bad on that play.

Regardless, imagine his potential behind the first team O-line? Yes, it's good to be a Broncos fan.

Undrafted rookies Kapri Bibbs and Juwan Thompson both showed solid running last night, and if it were me, I'd have to keep them both. But we've already established that I wouldn't be able to make these kinds of decisions, so I'll just leave it that both performed like they were playing for a job, and that means we've got competitors.

And boy do I love that from guys who have to fight their way on the field for yards and points.

"I just think that this is a game that's really important for young guys like me. Just go out there, give your all, leave it all on the line and make the decisions for the coaches even harder," said Bibbs, who ran for 32 yards and two touchdowns. "Only God knows if this was my last [game], but I wanted to make sure it was a good one. I left it all out there and wanted to have fun too."

Keep ‘em both, coach. Keep ‘em both.

Rookie wide receiver Cody Latimer has been one of the darlings of training camp and preseason, and after a mediocre performance last week, he bounced back huge with a 57-yard catch that just shows what this kid is going to be able to do.

I don't think he has anything to worry about making this team, but you gotta love his attitude about it - fight for everything.

I just hope that the coaches thought I played good, and hopefully, I'll stick around. -Cody Latimer, wide reciever

"I just hope that the coaches thought I played good, and hopefully, I'll stick around," said the Broncos No. 2 draft pick. "(Training camp) was a long, tough experience. I'm happy I made it through. I'm thankful for the coaches putting me out there in different situations and allowing me to showcase some of my talents."

Speaking of showcases, the second team defense looked like they've been taking good notes from the starters. That is going to be a tough group to whittle down, and I won't even venture a guess on who stays and who goes.

I will say one of my favorite parts of the game were the back-to-back sacks from Shaquil Barrett and Mitch Unrein.

"I thought I had a safety, but a sack is fine with me," Unrein said after his take-down at the Cowboys' one-yard line. "That doesn't come around too often with me. I just have to work on my sack dance because I didn't have anything planned. It always seems like I get up, point around and run to the sideline."

We forgive you, Mitch, and look forward to that dance.

"We played the way we were supposed to play," Unrein added about the second team defense. "Go out there, everyone do your assignment and fly to the ball. I know I can play in this league. If it's for the Broncos, that would be great. I feel like wherever it's at, I hope I can contribute."

Defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson co-led the team in tackles with Corey Nelson for five on the night.

"I'm just trying to play hard and show that I still got it. I'm showing that I can still play this game at a high level," Vickerson said. "Competition brings out the best in us. Everybody played hard, and that's all you can ask for. At the end of the day, play hard and lay it out on the line."

Have I said this enough - glad I'm not the decider.

Looking for a few good men...and women!

As we head into the regular season - YAY! - I'm looking to do a series of Q&As with a different MHR members for each upcoming game. You would have a chance to highlight what you like/don't like about the opponent, key match-ups in the game, players to pay attention to, what you're looking to see out of the Broncos, and of course, answer some other fun questions about the season and the team.

I'm hoping there's interest from you all because it's great to highlight our members and the insight you have beyond just Fan Posts and the comments sections. If you would like to be one of the "interviewees" just mention it in the Comments and pick your Broncos game. Ok...GO!

For something completely ridiculous (but I'm totally serious)...

Where are my band members? I have written a "Broncos-themed" version of Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire" and I need a band to sing/record it. Easy, right?

Ridiculous? Yes. Am I serious? Absolutely. Don't laugh too hard before considering it...I'll take the highest bidder (which, um, means just about anyone who wants to help me out, but when I make it on Dancing With the Stars for my Broncos swing dance,I promise full credit.)

ICYMI: Peyton Manning was fined for his little outburst against Texans' D.J. Swearinger last weekend. His response is even better than the original infraction...and that was damn good!

How hard is it to win back-to-back Super Bowls? Hard. What about avenging a Super Bowl loss? The odds are definitely against us, but personally I like our odds.

If you were watching the Dallas broadcast of last night's game, you know that their "Featured Defensive Player of the Game" was Orlando Scandrick. Um, he's been suspended for four games for performance enhancing drugs.
