What prompted Peyton Manning's agent to include this clause?

Was trading Peyton Manning a possibility?

Earlier this month, Manning agreed to a $4 million pay cut with the Broncos to free up some cash for the team. The adjusted contract allows for Manning to earn back the $4 million through incentives.

The deal also included a no-trade clause, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

Some, including CBS 4's Vic Lombardi, believe that the clause reveals Denver did have a backup plan for 2015. Trading Manning and rolling with Brock Osweiler (or someone else), may have been discussed by Denver.

The clause also shows, as Florio pointed out, that Manning wants to stay in Denver.

The clause is only good through the 2015 season. So Denver could technically trade Manning next year, but it's hard to imagine a team trading for 40-year-old QB with a $21.5 million cap hit.

The NFL is a tough business — few jobs are guaranteed.

But for at least this season, Manning's not going anywhere.

What was expected all along is finally official - No. 18 is back for his 18th season in the NFL, and fourth for the Denver Broncos. Now we can all start talking about the other 52 players...at least by tomorrow.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

So in case you've been in a bubble the last 48 hours, Peyton Manning is returning, and while many of us figured it was likely to happen - and others vocally hoped it wouldn't - it's great to have all the speculation over so we can officially put "PeytonWatch2015" in the books.

"We're excited it's over and glad that we can move on and glad that Peyton will be part of this team and hopefully win a championship next year," said Broncos' GM John Elway.

If Manning is able to lead the Broncos to its third Super Bowl victory - and his second - he will be taking a record from his boss. Elway currently stands as the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl, something he did at age 38.

"I've been working real hard, and I'm excited to be back with the Denver Broncos," Manning told the Denver Post. "Can't wait for April 13 to get here when the team can finally come together. I'm excited to get to work and get to know the new coaches and looking forward to trying to make 2015 a special year."

Manning will be attempting to shatter that as a 39-year-old aiming for a ring this coming season. Despite a lackluster performance the second-half of the 2014 season, the future Hall-of-Famer finished fourth in the NFL for passing yards at more than 4,700 and second in touchdown passes with 39.

Following Manning's physical yesterday morning, the Broncos announced officially what sports reporters had said the day before: the quarterback agreed to a $4 million pay cut with incentives that could give him back all of that - $2 million for making it to the Super Bowl, another $2 million for winning it.

For Elway and new head coach Gary Kubiak, this step with Manning's contract was just among the many in a long line of important off-season moves so far, including putting together a new staff and settling the franchise tag on Demaryius Thomas with hopes of a long-term deal in the future. Now the focus will turn to Free Agency next week and the Draft in May.

Finally! Apparently Elway had Manning Fatigue as well.

"We're just trying to put the pieces together of the puzzle together so that by time we get to August we have the best 90 football players on the field that we possibly can," Elway said Thursday. "There's always a lot of steps in the offseason and Peyton was one step and glad able to get that finished so we can move on."

As for Kubiak, the coach is excited to actually meet with ALL the players and get things off on the right foot.

"Looking forward to getting the football team together and working with all the guys and having a heck of a football team," Kubiak said, noting that day will start April 13. "I know [Manning's] as excited as anyone."

Kubiak also pointed out that that first day will be important for the goal ahead.

"We've got a big challenge ahead of us. We've got ground to make up because we have a new coaching staff," he said. "We've got to have a great program and feel good before taking a break and going into Training Camp."

The Denver Broncos' faith in Brock Osweiler's potential to lead the team was made apparent Wednesday when Peyton Manning was re-signed.

While many fans have been dead-set on the potential of Denver Broncos' backup quarterback Brock Osweiler, the numbers simply aren't there.

Osweiler for his career owns a 56.7 completion percentage, 159 passing yards, one touchdown and two sacks in 13 regular season games. Those numbers would not be quite so damning if they weren't nearly reflective of his 12 preseason games where he owns a 57.7 completion percentage, 930 yards, three touchdowns, five interceptions, three fumbles and 12 sacks.

Denver needs to trade Osweiler before the draft

Clearly what the Broncos have said publicly about Osweiler's progress or the teams' willingness to play this season with Osweiler at the helm was all lip-service. Denver made that evident when they agreed to pay Peyton Manning $15 million of his contracted $19 million to be their starting quarterback in 2015.

Manning will earn a $4 million bonus in the event that he wins the Super Bowl this season.

Coincidentally Osweiler's contract will expire at the end of this coming season, something that Osweiler himself has pointed out,

"When I was drafted here, I knew I was brought in to sit on the bench and learn from one of the greatest quarterbacks to have ever played this game," Osweiler said. "I also knew that his contract was one year longer than mine. We understood that.

"And really, in this business, the way I've looked at it is we take it one year at a time."

One year ago today, there were rumors that as many as four teams had called Denver to express interest in trading for Osweiler:

On @PeterBurnsRadio's show this morning it was said that two of the four teams contacting Denver for Brock Osweiler were the Browns & Texans

The Broncos are obligated to boast the trade value of Osweiler now more than ever, so expect propaganda from all of the usual sources, which will spread to some fans vehemently defending a quarterback that has yet to do anything in three NFL seasons.

Denver needs to get a trade done before the draft when they select a quarterback that may actually have the potential to be Manning's replacement. Drafting that quarterback would essentially nullify Osweiler's trade value, as teams will know that the Broncos will take nearly anything for a quarterback that is worth nearly nothing to them.

UPDATE (3/15/15):
Former Baltimore Ravens' quarterback Tyrod Taylor reportedly turned down more than two-years and $7 million dollars from Denver to sign with the Buffalo Bills. Taylor reportedly wanted a chance to start this season.

Now why would Denver want to pay a third string quarterback that much money?

Good Morning Broncos Country

Last night the Denver Broncos and quarterback Peyton Manning agreed to a four-million-dollar pay cut and will be returning to the Denver Broncos in 2015 pending a physical. If/when Manning passes that physical this morning the Broncos will officially announce the deal.

When news dropped that Manning was returning for 2015, many of him teammates were obviously excited about playing one more season with the future Hall of Famer.

Pay cut to motivate Manning?:

Manning did take a four million dollar pay cut but, he can earn that four million dollars back if the Broncos can do two not so simple things. Manning will earn 2 million dollars back if the Broncos win the AFC Championship game, and another 2 million if the Broncos win the Super Bowl.

This means the Broncos would have to win at least one playoff game before Manning could even get the chance to earn back half of the four million dollars he is giving up.

This has sparked some to question whether or not John Elway deliberately did this to give Manning some extra motivation.

Maybe pissing off Manning was part of Elway's plan. Then you give him incentive to get the cash you ripped from him back with SB win.

Usually, these type of incentives are turned into situations that are often not reached. Obviously I do not think Elway is doing that here, so it makes some sense that Elway is trying to motivate Manning.

I for one hope Manning earns back every penny next season.

"I'm... looking forward to trying to make 2015 a special year."

The Denver Post's Mike Klis spoke to Peyton Manning after news dropped that the Broncos and Manning have agreed to a $4 million pay cut. According to Klis, Manning says he is "excited to be back" with the Broncos in 2015.

Here is what Manning said to Klis:

"I don't talk about my contract. I never have in 18 years, and I'm not going to start now," Manning said Wednesday afternoon. "I've been working real hard, and I'm excited to be back with the Denver Broncos. Can't wait for April 13 to get here when the team can finally come together. I'm excited to get to work and get to know the new coaches and looking forward to trying to make 2015 a special year."

Manning also said that he will take his physical at the Denver Broncos headquarters Thursday morning and that he expects it to be "pretty routine."

Manning's pay cut reportedly boosts the Broncos cap up near $20 million but might be higher depending how the Broncos worked it. The final details of the pay cut will be released tomorrow.

Some have believed that the Broncos were seeking this pay cut so they could re-sign some of their own, most notably Julius Thomas and Terrance Knighton. However, Klis says that do not expect the Broncos to re-sign either of those two despite Manning taking a pay cut.

According to Klis, the Broncos approached Manning seeking a bigger pay cut than the one he now agreed to. Apparently the Broncos were not seeking salary cap relief but instead cash relief. This move helped the Broncos get their finances in order.

Manning also spoke again about his transition from the offense he runs to the offense he and new Head Coach Gary Kubiak come up with. He still doesn't seem very concerned about the transition.

"I feel like I'm pretty flexible," Manning said. "I feel like somehow, some way I've found different ways to make things work. I look forward to working with coach Kubiak and trying to do my job and do whatever I can to help the team.

I'm looking forward to the stimulation part of it, I think learning new things as you become an older player is a good thing. Learn new ideas, different ways. I look forward to it."

With "Manning Watch 2015" officially behind us, we can now set our sights on Free Agency set to kickoff next week. Hopefully, the Broncos use the money they saved from Manning wisely in free agency.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Peyton Manning will make $15 million in 2015.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Jeff Legwold, quarterback Peyton Manning is reportedly taking a $4 million pay cut in 2015. This means that Manning will be making a total of $15 million in 2015 instead of $19 million.

This news should finally put an end to the Peyton Manning saga that has gone on for almost two months. Peyton Manning will be back in 2015 and has taken a $4 million pay cut.

According to Over The Cap, the Denver Broncos currently have $15,527,342 in cap space after they placed the franchise tag on receiver Demaryius Thomas. An extra 4 million dollars will give the Broncos close to $20 million in cap space, and could get close to $30 million if they decide to make a few cap cuts.

Names like Manny Ramirez, Chris Clark, Andre Caldwell, and Britton Colquitt all could be cut in the coming days. Also, left tackle Ryan Clady is another player who could restructure his contract and give the Broncos a little more cap space.

It will be interesting to see what John Elway has planned for the extra cap space Manning has given the Broncos. Will they try to re-sign tight end Julius Thomas or guard Orlando Franklin? Or will they look to use that extra cash to sign a big name free agent like Devin McCourty, Mike Iupati, or Rodney Hudson?

According to Legwold, the contract is not final until Manning passes a physical exam, which he is expected to take place in the next 24 hours. Also, other minor details on the contract also are being finalized
