Disrespected all year, the Broncos stun everyone but those with half a brain to win Super Bowl 50!

John Mother Freaking Elway for President!!!! The most clutch QB in NFL history is also the most clutch GM in NFL history!

This just in, I don't know who is in charge of MVP voting and I don't know who is officially gonna get the Super Bowl MVP, but Von Miller is my MVP! Have any of you seen a man on a mission like this? Has anyone ever seen a player dominate the game on defense like this?

What was that bull crap stat I saw that ultimately didn't matter? Has no team ever won the super bowl with no offensive turnovers? Well, let me say this, "No team has ever lost a Super Bowl with Von Freaking Miller starting on defense!"

CJ CJ CJ !!!!!! Thank you, Gary, for making Ronnie the drive killing Hillman the non-starter. 5 carries for -1 yards is pathetic. Thank GOD we have CJ Anderson! CJ freaking Anderson baby!!!!!!

Sorry for this format, but I'm too elated to think! WE ARE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS! STOP GIVING US PRAISE CBS, ESPN, NFLN, cause you sure as S**t didn't give us any leading up to this game! Take that crow, and shove it up all your collective asses!

Offense

Peyton Manning reverted back into Week 1 Peyton Manning, but that hardly matters and I really don't care. There is no "should he start next week" nonsense to be said. There is just this: Peyton Manning can go out on top like John Freaking Elway! The Provider! The real Sheriff! Do it, Peyton, seal your legacy as the second best QB to ever play the game only next to Elway! Go out on top like all of us fans wanted. Go out on top, head high, with a big bird flashing to the doubters! Thank you, Peyton, thank you for bringing your mastery to the Mile High City! Thank you for being a class act! Thank you for everything! Just... Just Thank You!!!!!

Demaryius Thomas.... catch the football. Contribute to our next Super Bowls. If you aren't going to try to earn your money, then just pull a Calvin Johnson and retire. I'm done with primadonna receivers holding out for money and then refusing to earn it.

Emmanuel Sanders, Hemanuel Sanders, you are a bad ass! 6 catches for 83 yards! You sacrificed your body for this team. You sacrificed your health for your brothers in arms! Thank you for choosing us over those sad-sack Chiefs! Your love for our team, city, and fans just got you a world championship baby!!!!

CJ Anderson, you are the offensive MVP next to Sanders. Both of you came up huge for our team! When the dust settles and the smoke clears, you will go down in history as the RB to score our only offensive touchdown in Super Bowl 50! I love you CJ!

Defense

What can you possibly say about the defense other than this: You are the most dominant group I've seen since the 1985 Bears! Do you love how disrespected you were? Don't you love hearing how you'll get eaten alive? Don't you love how nobody gave you a chance? Do you feed off of making everyone look like chumps? How does Panther meat taste Wade? A little chewy, but oh so tasty!

Von Miller, you just became the highest paid player in the NFL. You are dominant! You showed everyone in the nation who the real MVP is! Dump that bucket on Kubes Von and DeMarcus! You two are brothers and its clear that you played for each other!

Demarcus Ware, you too can go out like Peyton, or you can try defending your title. Either way, Thank you for becoming a Denver Bronco! You mentored Von Miller and really made him the man and player that he is today!

Stewart, you are a stud! Chris Harris Jr., you are a freaking STUD!!!!! Holy crap, I'm so glad you took a hometown discount for your team and fans! You are what Denver is all about! Thank you!!!

Aquib Talib, after you calm down, please come back next year!

TJ Ward, God I love your emotions! Your dreams came true. You left the Browns for this reason! Welcome to Denver! I love you too!

Derek Wolfe, please talk sense into Malik Jackson. This doesn't come in New York, it comes in Denver!

Special Teams

You guys are rockstars! I doubted you in the preseason, but boy oh boy have you proven the entire nation, including your fanbase wrong! STUDS! All of you are studs!!!!!

Coaching

Gary Kubiak becomes the first person to win a Super Bowl as a player and head coach! I love you, Gary! Now get that offensive line under control, and lets defend this mother!

Coach Wade Phillips, if the MVP voting was done after the super bowl like it should be, you'd be coach of the year in a rout! Almost as big of a route as this defense against anybody! You are the champion, my friend! Now crack a few brews and celebrate with your team!

Conclusion

We won!!!! WE WON Broncos COUNTRY!!!!! Like 1998, we were underdogs and made everyone bit the soap! Nobody can take this away from us! For the new generation Broncos faithful, this right here, this is what it is like to be a Broncos fan! Now let's lose our mother effing minds everyone! We are the freaking champions of the world!!!!!

This one's for Mike

A special shout-out to MHR's fallen brother Bronco Mike. Gone but not forgotten, we're a Mile High with you our friend.

This site is great in large part to the writers who come here every day to provide interesting, informative and relevant content about our favorite team. So who better to give the award to than two people who put their heart and souls into delievering a quality product to fans every day.

John "TheSportsGuru" Bena

John Bena started Mile High Report almost a decade ago, but as the staff has morphed into almost an entirely new group, many here may not fully appreciate just what Bena did nine years ago. But one member (and former contributor) Jeremy Bolander knows Bena as well as anyone and has provided not just an outstanding tribute to his friend, but also an incredible MHR history lesson for all of us:

If you were a displaced Broncos fan in the summer of '06, you were probably pretty disappointed. If you were searching for honest discussion, you were feeling pretty lost. You were not alone. -Jeremy Bolander

If you were a displaced Bronco fan in the summer of '06, far from home and desperately searching for news and opinion on the Internet, you were probably pretty disappointed.

If you were searching for information or honest discussion, you were feeling pretty lost out there.

But you weren't alone.

John Bena was one of those fans, but unlike most of us, he had a plan. He had been an early adopter of the "blogging" platform for sports-specific ramblings, posting thoughts on any sport, league or team that caught his encyclopedic interest as TheSportsGuru, but nowhere did his insight shine more than about his beloved Broncos.

And when he was approached by a fledgling SBNation to join its stable of NFL bloggers, he saw an opportunity. He created the "Mile High Report" and from the crucible of the hostile and dubious "flame wars" of that hot summer, he wrote his first rule of MHR blogging:

Bena: The day I started MHR(August 24th, 2006) I wanted MHR to be a positive place for Broncos fans to talk about Denver Broncos football. The main stream media, as well as fan message-boards, have become breeding grounds for negativity making it almost ‘uncool' to actually say anything nice about the team or players. I wanted to change that. I wanted to give real Broncos fans a place that it was ok to look at the bright side of things, in good and bad times. That doesn't mean we aren't critical of the Broncos, but we aren't negative. There is a difference.

In the same breath, John also created his second rule of MHR blogging, what he felt would set it apart in the coming years, and ultimately, what it would be when he was gone:

Bena: I also make a point of letting the community know that MHR really belongs to them. By creating a sense of ownership in the community they can handle any issue that arise. That way I don't need to ‘police' the site and can focus on content. It reminds me of a solid NFL lockerroom. If there are quality leaders in a locker room, and the players police themselves, the coaches can focus on game plans. Any malcontents fall into line because they know they'll have to follow the rules of the community or they won't be part of it. This attitude worked when there was 30 members and it works with 3000 members.

Like any good team, the leaders and coaches have come and gone, but a culture was cultivated where new ones were always ready, and willing, to step up.

John's personal contributions to the site were numerous, from the ink-stained wretch soloing the daily posts for years, to the constant support of members who would become contributors and often, staffers, here or elsewhere, to the long, slow process of developing cred with the Broncos' public relations team.

Forget the painful 2005 playoff loss where "Good Jake" inexplicably imploded and forget the shocking move in the draft when Shanny jumped up and took one of the 2006 "Big Three" QBs - a sleepy-eyed, small-school gunslinger named Jay Cutler.

No, the disappointment stemmed from an unrelenting tide of negativity, pushed along primarily by a mooning mainstream media, including the now defunct Rocky Mountain News, that had been dialing up a listless vitriol against the Broncos since 2001, the year taxpayers got roped into financing a mega stadium for the franchise. The banging of the MSM drum fostered a disapproving and deprecating environment that in turn fostered some of the ugliest forums and discussion boards on the web.

The best compliment someone could give - and it was given often - was that once someone found MHR, they never wanted to go anywhere else for their Broncos news. Through the years, the offerings have changed, but that has remained the same.

One offering missed by many, and probably the best example of what John meant to MHR, was his MHR Radio show - always anticipated and even at three hours or more, never long enough. John's classic rants always gave voice to what Broncos fans were feeling frustrated by during the week, and his interactions with the audiences, by far the biggest logistical hurdle to manage, but one that John wouldn't do the show without, were spontaneous and fun, and as honest a look at a blogger as anyone has ever been given, before or since.

I'll never forget how John spent months building a soundproof "man-cave" for the radio show, ostensibly so he could cut out the interruptions and distractions while providing a more professional broadcast, and then would invite his daughters in to say goodnight to all of us, with a hearty "Go Broncos!"

It is an honor to know him and to call him a friend, and ultimately to share that privilege with so many others who found and knew MHR through him, and him through MHR. Even if you never met John, you know the standards and expectations of the site that he set, and you know it's just a bit different from any other place you could go to talk Broncos.

And in so much as you know these things, then you know John Bena.

Bronco Mike

Mike Gomez, aka Bronco Mike, left this world all too early, but not before leaving behind a legacy of great analysis, unparalleled film breakdown and writing that was always a delicate mix of harsh sarcasm, biting criticism and light humor. But no matter what he wrote, Bronco Mike's genuine love for the team was always evident.

A writer at Mile High Report for just over four years, Mike passed away suddenly in June 2015. Though the rules for the "Author Hall of Fame" state the writer must have been gone from MHR for at least a year, as a staff and community it seemed a fitting tribute to this larger-than-life personality and writer to honor him with the Hall of Fame induction as soon as possible.

Mike lived and breathed Broncos football and was very vocal in his opinions. If you didn't know him well, his retorts in comments or on social media could come off as angry, mean-spirited diatribes. But if you hung on just a few more seconds, you'd know it was really just a deep passion for the Broncos and for winning - and that he considered all Broncos fans true friends.

His SBNation profile reads: Been a Bronco fan since I was brought into this world in 84'. I am a musician and teacher.

He was certainly a teacher to all of us at MHR and the loss of his insight, passion, humor and genuine love for the team will remain a hole that cannot be replaced but will always be remembered.

Congratulations and a Mile High Salute to two great authors - John Bena and Bronco Mike. Share some of your favorite memories about these two authors while congratulating them in the comments!

Is it possible to sum up a person's life in just a few paragraphs? Maybe if that person were just an average, day-to-day Joe, but that wasn't Mike. Mike was larger than life. Everything about him was big - his heart, his smile, his laugh, and his ability to absolutely love everyone he met without any judgments getting in the way.

I hate to spin this into sports so quickly, but that's how we all met. I remember my first interaction with Mike. I had just joined the MHR staff from BroncoTalk. I went into the staff chat room, and people all did their "nice to meet you" and "how long have you been a fan?" etc. You know, the normal greetings. I remember Scotty or Topher saying that it was pretty stuffy in there sometimes.

I'm not sure exactly what I said, but I gave a "typical" Pete-is-being-funny-and-stupid saying, and Mike immediately went along with it. It was as if we had been friends our whole lives. One simple greeting, and it felt like I had known him since I was 10. Nobody else struck me like that. There was no "Hi, I'm Mike" or "Hi, I'm Pete," for those are normal and mundane things to say. Mike was anything but boring and reserved. It's safe to say I liked him from the start.

Then there was the first time I actually met Mike. By this time, we were really good friends. We'd talk daily, not only in the chat room but via phone calls and texts. He really was quickly becoming one of my best friends. He was in Denver from Hugo and wanted to grab a bite to eat. He wanted a good burger, so I told him to meet me and my family at Burger Works for some burgers and beer. The first time I met Mike in person is the first time my wife and twins met him also. We all gave him a hug (I'm a hugger), and we had the most enjoyable two-hour burger hangout I've ever had.

He instantly became "Uncle Mike." That's an honor bestowed on very few people walking this planet.

He was so alive, so caring, and was great around my girls. He took all the questions that little 7 or 8-year-olds would have at the time and answered them with humor and a smile. He really made them feel at home, and he instantly became "Uncle Mike." That's an honor bestowed on very few people walking this planet.

Over the next few years, we would see each other almost every time he came to Denver. If he was on an extended visit, it wouldn't be unusual to see the two of us chilling out next to a lake eating sushi, or over at my place watching football and drinking beer. I took him to Bayou Bobs downtown for a Saints game. He really enjoyed that. I made him try their Cajun combeaux (combo), so he could see what Cajun food tasted like. He had never had any up to that point. What did he say about it? He said "it's creamy." Haha. I know, that's stupid to remember, but most people say: "Wow, that's amazing. The flavors are great." But Mike? No. Again, that's too easy for a guy like Mike. Needless to say, many, many Hurricanes later, the Saints won, and we had a blast.

Then there are the epic chat room rants we would have. Half of the stuff I said was to just get a reaction out of Mike. I mean, you know when people say, "it'll never be the same without you buddy," when someone quits their job or moves on? To say that the MHR family will never be the same without Mike is doing a great disservice to him, yet it has to be said that none of us will ever be the same without Mike.

There will never again be another, "C.J. Anderson won't get cut and put on the practice squad you moron. Some team will pick him up," then Mike and everyone else chiming in "he's had four carries. He can get stashed, nobody will pick him up." And me sticking to my guns until Scotty told us to shut up and just make a bet and move on. Yeah Mike, you still owe me that $50. Haha. Oh, and don't think I'm not visiting your family and giving them some of my "gringo" green chili. You know it's great!

What's horrible is the wake of destruction that happens once a loved member dies. Whether you believe in heaven or you think that everything simply goes dark, there are real people being affected who are still alive. It's our feelings and emotions that take the burden, and it's our memories of the deceased that live on. I've dealt with death before, but not quite like this. Mike was just different. I'm not going to have him next to me on the couch, or across the table from me while we just shoot the shit. I mean, we just had dinner with him last freaking week! It was mid-week, so we went home early (7:30 p.m) because we had to go to sleep so we could wake up for work. That was the last time we saw Mike! That was it! Done! No more! Why couldn't we have stayed an extra hour? Or two? Or three? We figured we'd see him again on Monday and life would be good. But Monday never came.

So now I get to spend the last few days, alone with my wife, sharing each other's tears. Raising toast after toast and saying, "To Mike," everywhere we go. There hasn't been a single drink, from the second we learned about his passing, that hasn't had a toast in Mike's honor attached to it. Each time I pull myself together for five minutes, I look over at my beautiful wife and see tears running down her face because she too loved Mike. It's a vicious cycle, the tears and the pain. Thinking you'll be OK and then realizing that four hours have passed and you haven't said a single word or stopped staring at the wall. Having your wife say, "You need to eat," and knowing she's right, but just not having an appetite, all the while knowing that she's suffering in silence every bit as much.

So what are we left with now? We're left with a hole in our hearts and heads that nothing can fill. There will never be another Mike. I'll have to pretend that the Broncos exist independently from him. I'll have to watch games knowing I cannot call him or text him or hand him another beer if he's next to me. He loved the Broncos so much that you can't mention Mike without mentioning the Broncos. Even when you know someone so well outside of the realm of sports like I do and my wife does, you always come back to sports with him. Perhaps it was because sports was his thing. Sports was his love. When most others have passions outside of sports, all Mike had was music and the Broncos, and he put every ounce of heart and soul that he had into both of them.

So now the upcoming season is happening. If you believe in God, then you know Mike has the best seat in the house. If you don't, then I suppose it just doesn't matter. But there is one thing I can promise Mike and everyone on the planet... when the dust settles and the smoke clears, and the Broncos are world champions, we'll hear a familiar phrase uttered once again, but it won't be from Pat Bowlen. No, instead it'll be from me. I'll raise my toast like Bowlen raised the trophy and proclaim, "This one's for Mike!"

Mike Gomez - AKA "Bronco Mike" - was an editor, main writer, and contributor for Mile High Report for nearly four years. He was a huge part of Broncos Country. He passed away on June 27, 2015 at the age of 31. Below, Broncos Country pays its respects.

Monty

I had the privilege of meeting Bronco Mike in March 2013, when I first joined Mile High Report as its new Managing Editor. I later had the privilege of meeting him in person in the summer of 2014, but I chose the words in my first sentence carefully - even over this technical ether we call the Internet, I "met" and got to know Bronco Mike long ago. I met him the day we exchanged emails; over chats, email, Facebook, Twitter, and the occasional phone call/text message, I've interacted with Mike nearly daily since. In the weeks that would follow, Mike would choose to step up from a contributor role to become one of MHR's primary authors. More than anyone else, Mike helped make that transition as seamless as possible for the MHR community.

Mike was a personality. I remember thinking, when first joining Mile High Report, that he was a character I might need to reign in. I'm a very moderate guy; I stray from extreme opinions and think everything through carefully. Mike was the opposite - loud, passionate, honest and direct. Yet, amazingly, his loud-voiced opinions were still incredibly thought-out. He could argue with passion and intelligence any topic related to football and the Denver Broncos, nearly instantly. His mind was an encyclopedia of highlight reels and stats that he could use to back up his opinion in a heartbeat.

Of late, I know Mike had been going through a stressful time. It pains me that he possibly left this world in that state, and I hope he did not. And I have reasons to believe his heart and optimism held on. I believe this by the simple gesture he sent me only a few months back - a simple email, asking me if everything was alright and if there's anything he could do to help me (I had been travelling a lot for work, and frustrated at my inability to devote time to the blog). "Just checking in as a friend," Mike wrote - a simple email, out of the blue, that meant a lot to me then and the world to me now. Even as struggles in his every day life were catching up to him, Mike was considerate enough to reach out to me. It's just the type of man he was - a personality too big just for himself and, ultimately, a personality too big for this world.

I am proud to have known Mike Gomez, humbled to have called him a colleague, and honored to call him a friend. Mike loved music, the Denver Broncos, teaching both, and sharing himself with the world. We will miss him. This blog will never be the same.

RIP Bronco Mike.

Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann

If ever there were a truly passionate Broncos fan, it was Mike Gomez. No one could get madder at a loss or happier at a win - he was a man of true, raw emotion. And I loved that.

I will never forget how angry he was after the Broncos lost to the Colts this year, and his first comment in the chat room following the game was how mad he was at Manning and how "no one needed a sappy post about his legacy, Laurie."

Although I had only worked alongside Mike for one season, I was used to his outbursts and knew his bark was stronger than his bite, so I said nothing. But I LOL'd (as Mike would say often) when I read his reaction post to the game about "coping with loss."

Ultimately, Bronco Mike defended his team and his quarterback as only Bronco Mike could - with both anger and love: "Thank you Peyton Manning for laying yet another goose egg in an important game. It's really easy to defend your legacy and playoff record when you throw for 150 yards and average about 3.5 yards per attempt," followed a few paragraphs later by, "Thank you Peyton Manning for sharing your career with the Broncos! You gave us so many wonderful memories, Never have I seen someone command the field like you did. Your legacy speaks for itself and needs nothing else to be complete."

He sent me an apologetic email for his initial comment and then we laughed over how he had basically written the one thing he said Broncos Country didn't need. Turns out, we agreed, it always needs passion.

And that's what Mike had - a sincere passion for the Broncos (which fueled an equally deep disdain for the Patriots), for his kids at school, for his family, for his music, for his Scrabble games, and for all of us at MHR. I believe almost nothing gave him greater pleasure than a good debate about the Broncos.

I will sincerely miss you, Bronco Mike. I planned many more Twitter fights with you :) But I promise to do you right by defending Manning among our peers this year (because I know ultimately you would!) and then you and I can both laugh at all the non-believers when he wins another Super Bowl. I will imagine you in heaven playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on your sax, giving a few Broncos fans and every single Patriots fan there a hard time on Twitter (I'm sure it exists) and sporting your Broncos jersey proudly while simultaneously yelling at and cheering for our favorite team.

Now it's time for us to "cope" with your loss ... which will be much, much harder. Go Broncos!

Tim Lynch

I'd never met Mike in person, but I still considered him a good friend as we have blogged together for such a long time. I am going to miss our friendly banter and rage trolls on one another in MHR'S threads. It made this grind called blogging all the more enjoyable.

It feels surreal to even be typing these words. We're all going to miss you immensely, Mike. Rest in peace, brother.

Scotty Payne

I suck at writing these type of things, so bear with me here.

I knew Mike for almost 5 years. During those 5 year's I interacted with him on a daily basis. We often debated/disagreed/argued about Peyton Manning, John Elway...basically everything Broncos/football related. We had our many disagreements, but I considered him a friend.

I learned a lot of football from Mike and always valued his opinion. Speaking of his opinion, he was never afraid to give his opinion and argue with you for hours about it. In the end, it was nothing personal and we would talk about how much we both hated the Patriots and Brady.

MHR will never replace Bronco Mike. His passion, dedication and knowledge will be missed by us all.

I still can't believe it. I'm shocked, saddened, and at a loss for words. This sucks.

You will be greatly missed Mike. Thank you for all the memories you have left behind. You're in a better place now and you will have front row seats from every Broncos game going forward.

Rest in peace in Mike. You will be missed by me and the rest of us.

Amy Richau

Even though we are both local Broncos fans I sadly never met Mike in person. But Mike was such a larger than life internet presence you didn't need to meet him face to face to feel like you knew him. Mike was one of the most welcoming staff members when I joined MHR last fall and was always quick to answer a question about the game he clearly loved so much. It's hard for me to think about MHR without him. I'll miss him pinging me on the staff chat room wondering what I was up to and hearing his hysterical rants about football and life in general. Condolences to all of Mike's family and friends.

Joseph Mahoney

MHR will never replace Bronco Mike. His passion, dedication and knowledge will be missed by us all.

Before I joined staff, I wrote quote a few fanposts. The best part of the whole process was chatting about the Broncos with other fans in the comments section. I got to know Mike fairly well because he was a very vocal and knowledgeable commenter on my posts even the ones that sucked. Mike liked my writing enough that he pitched me to join the staff at MHR. While I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, I'll never forget his passion and wit.

Rest in peace, Mike. We'll all miss you, even those who only know you by your writing.

Jess Place

Bronco Mike will be missed. If ever asked, you'd be hard pressed to find a person as outspoken and passionate about the Denver Broncos. We didn't always agree on how best to get there, but we both imagined the greatness of the same thing... a Broncos Super Bowl victory. Mike lived in the Broncos moment and kept me in check when I'd harken back to the past to prove points about issues plaguing today's team. His focus was on today and tomorrow and he rarely reveled in past successes (something I do probably more than I should). Mike was colorful and he spoke his mind with hilarious wit. Make no mistake, Mike Gomez was one of a kind. Bronco Mike will be missed.

I first encountered Mike shortly before he became a staffer about 4 years ago got to know him better as we became staffers on Mile High Report around the same time. Like myself Mike was incredibly stubborn and while we clashed early as members of the staff we quickly started helping each others to improve our understanding of the game. Over the past 4 years I talked more football with Mike than anyone else in my entire life, my understanding of the game was shaped by studying with him almost daily. Mike was one of the most passionate fans out there, loyal to the Broncos above all else in football. It's a strange feeling, as someone who I talked to every day for years, it's odd that I won't be able to joke, argue and debate with him again. Mike made me a better and smarter fan and I'm indebted to him. We never met face to face but I don't think that stops me from knowing him.

Jon Heath

I never met Mike face to face, but we had many online discussions -- and even debates -- that I will never forget. I consider him a great friend and person. He did many great things at MHR, and this site will never be the same without him. But I know he's in a better place now, and that gives me peace. I hope and pray that his family finds the same peace. We'll miss you, Bronco Mike!

Jacob Dearlove

I never met Bronco Mike in person, but because of his larger than life presence online I felt as though I had met him many times and I counted him as a good friend.

I learned more about football from Mike in my year plus at MHR (and before that) than I have from anyone in my life. Before I began at MHR, I followed Mike on Twitter and read his work on the site, he (along with a few other MHR writers) was truly my introduction into the non mass-media coverage of the Broncos, and I loved it. When I joined the staff, Mike was one of the first to welcome me in and get me acquainted with everything, and he drove me to have a better understanding of the game we both loved and ultimately drove me to be a better writer.

If ever there was a truly passionate Broncos fan, it was Mike Gomez.

He was an intelligent man, who taught me a lot about football; a funny guy, whose messages on the group chat often had me literally laughing out loud (my roommates can attest to this); he was passionate about his Broncos and about anything else he believed; and most of all he was a friend, who welcomed me into the MHR staff with open arms and was always up for a chat about football, or anything else for that matter.

Bronco Mike will be missed and there will be no replacing him. Rest in peace, Mike, you'll not be forgotten.

Christopher Hart

I never had the privilege of meeting Bronco Mike in person, but truly enjoyed the opportunity to discuss the Denver Broncos and everything else under the sun with him over our time together at Mile High Report. Words cannot express how saddened I was to hear the news of his passing.

Mike was one of the most intelligent writers and football minds I had the pleasure of working beside. His in-depth analysis and takes on the Broncos are one of the reasons why Mile High Report is a great site and community. The Broncos discourse he offered was some of the best around -- and his quality insight taught myself, many other staff and fans of the site so much about the Broncos. Better yet, Mike had a vibrant personality and was one of the wittiest and funniest writers on staff. He always had something to say that would brighten our days or make us laugh.

Although Mike is no longer with us physically, his spirit will continue to live on through his family, friends and anyone who had the honor of crossing paths with him. He was one of a kind and the memories he forged at Mile High Report will not be forgotten.

My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends during this tragic time.

Rest in peace, Mike.

Sadaraine

Bronco Mike was fiery, passionate, asking questions, and really hungry for learning more about football with the rest of us when he joined MHR years ago and when he started writing, he quickly became a poster that I would always go out of my way to read. I'll miss him as a friend on staff, the best damned play review guy I've seen at MHR, and a brother in Christ. Rest in peace, Mike. I look forward to the day when we get to catch up so I can tell you face to face how much you are loved and missed.

Kelly Fleming

Like many of the other staff writers, I never had the opportunity to meet Mike in person, but it feels like I did. As soon as I joined the MHR staff, Mike was there helping me learn the differences between nickel and dime defenses, explaining the different roles of the offensive line, and giving us all more passion and humor to write with. From what I know, Mike was a wonderful teacher, and his music students loved him. I can only imagine the atmosphere he brought to the classroom. I can't imagine MHR without him, and my heart is heavy for his friends and family.
Rest in peace, Bronco Mike.

It is very shocking to lose a friend. Especially this sudden. It really reminds us how important our lives truly are. Make sure the one's you love know it. Mike was always kind to me and when he asked me any questions about blogging or picked my brain to see how I went about my work, I gladly encouraged him into his own true direction and it made me proud that he took the proverbial ball and ran with it. When he wasn't breaking down film or trolling Raider fans, Mike taught and shared his love of Music to kids. He was also an accomplished Saxophonist and loved Jazz. I shared a few Training Camp practices, the Summer Scrimmage that tried to rain us out 2 years ago and a trip to Loveland to obtain Simon Fletcher's autograph with him. I think whenever I see it precipitate on a football field, I will think of my friend. R.I.P. Bronco Mike.

Luc Polglaze, Director of NFL Content and Broncos Team Manager, Pro Football Spot

Sometimes, life just reaches out and strikes you in the face. When I learned of Mike's passing, I couldn't believe it. I still can't. And I don't know how to sum it up.

Where do you begin with a man who has touched so many lives? Who can forget Mike's jokes, his jibes and his opinions? He was influential on MHR for so many readers and on a more personal level, for me as a young sports journalist. I started as a commenter on MHR who went by the name of broncosfanforlife, or BFFL. If you look carefully, sometimes you'll still see me around. Mike's articles taught me to write and to watch football closely. I learned from him and he always encouraged me. I wouldn't be where I am today without him. Love him or hate him, Mike had strong opinions and he stuck to his guns. The most recent tweet on his Twitter account reads, "Don't split hairs with me, you guys know what i'm talking about..." Mike, we always did.

From the comments

Broncos Country's outpouring of support has been overwhelming. Thank you to everyone who left comments on our original announcement post (read through them here). Here are a few we highlighted.

ozark_orange

I am so deeply saddened to hear that Bronco Mike will no longer be with us here at MHR. My heartfelt condolences and prayers to his loved ones.

Jeremy Bolander

Such sad news. You will be missed, brother. Sleep in peace.

mdierk

What awful news...... May Mike be at peace and condolences to his family.

It might be too soon, but I would have no issue with Mike being inducted posthumously into the MHR author HOF.

NCBroncomaniac

It somehow never ceases to amaze me how utterly words can fall tragically short of what we truly want to say.

Like I’m sure many here, I never personally met Mike, but I have had many interactions with him, both here and on Twitter. His knowledge of all things football, and especially Broncos, was nothing short of impressive. While at times he could be abrasive, and certainly there were times I found myself disagreeing with his approach or opinion, but one couldn’t help but appreciate his passion.

Our community has lost a great person today, he will truly be missed. I for one, second the earlier suggestion to add Bronco Mike to the MHR Hall of Fame.

I still can’t quite find the words, so I found these words, from Bronco Mike himself, from one of his previous posts:

"My soul, is as open as the sky. Often time, it’s just as blue. People tell me, I need to keep on dreamin."

(Another commenter, in reply, found that these were song lyrics to the Amos Lee's Dreamin').

John B

From the SBN Jets family. I’d like to pass along my deepest condolences to Mike’s loved ones.

Mike was a wonderful commenter and Broncos ambassador on Gang Green Nation for years.

shasta77

I am so sorry for his family and all of the MHR community that lost a real beacon of discourse and study that made us all better.

We didn’t always agree, as family never does, but I valued his perspective as a means to improve my own. This is a huge loss that we will only continue to appreciate as the days and weeks unfold.

To his family, thank you for letting him share so much of his passion and insight with the extended family that MHR is. We all benefitted from the MHR piece of who he was that we could interact with. But you got the whole man, and so your degree of interaction clearly pales our small fraction. My deepest condolscenes for what is quite simply a tragic loss for all of us.

KRONK-00

Rest and be at peace, B-Mike. Thank you for what you brought, and what you taught.

Bronco Mike was my favorite MHR Staff Member.

Bronco Mike R.I.P. I’m going to miss your articles and posts. My condolences to your family and friends. MHR won’t be the same! You are the reason(articles and point of view) I joined the MHR instead of just lurking. So I could converse with you and ask your opinions on different things about the Broncos! Thank you Mike for everything

Nordic_Saab95

Ride off into that orange and blue sky, brother. You will be greatly missed by us all. God better be a Broncos fan, because if not, he’s gonna get an ear full.

j-man

this is the worst news of the offseason by far. i never met the man but i am tearing up

NHPeytonFan18

Bronco Mike was my favorite MHR Staff Member. I haven’t checked in for a few days and this is truly shocking and terrible news.

Just read through all of the comments and its nice to see what a special impact Bronco Mike had on so many fans: Broncos fans, fans of other teams, and wwe fans. It really does say alot to be able to have such a positive impact on others through your writing on a blog, many of whom who had never met Bronco Mike.

I always enjoyed his breakdowns and learned alot from them. Living in NE, I liked how he would go after pats fans both on pats pulpit and on MHR. I remember clicking on Bronco Mike’s name once and checking all the posts he had made on MHR, Pats Pulpit, Gang Green Nation, and Cage Side Seats to name a few. He really knew his stuff and knew how to talk trash and defend his team in a respectful way.

The column he wrote about Manning right after the playoff loss to the Colts was especially well done saying that if it was Manning’s last game with the Broncos then it was a great ride. At a time when many fans were highly emotional and reactionary, Bronco Mike put things in perfect perspective.

RIP Bronco Mike.

Thank you for all your great contributions to MHR and SportsNation.

If you'd like to pay your respects to Mike, please feel free to do so in the comments below and/or by donating to his family's Go Fund Me page.

We're all shocked and saddened today to pass along the news: longtime MHR writer Bronco Mike has passed away. According to his family, he passed away in his sleep early Saturday morning, cause unknown. Mike was 31 years old.

We'll be paying our respects to Mike over the next several days. Please expect no Broncos news or updates to come for the next 24 hours as we honor our friend, colleague, and Broncos brother.
